A little bit about me...
My name is James Vinup and I was born in Rising Sun, Indiana; though I lived most my life claiming Wisconsin. I currently live in Okinawa Japan. I am an active duty Marine and have been in for almost 18 years. I am married and have three children (17, 11, and 9). I was never a very good student in high school. I was lazy and hated doing homework (still kind of do). One of my biggest problems was that I was able to learn things easily and did not find enough challenges in the work I did. I did not plan on going to college because I thought it was a waste of time. I decided when I was fourteen that I would join the Marine Corps for four years and get out and become a police officer. What I did not realize was that I enjoyed being a Marine. Here we are over seventeen years later, and I am still on active duty.
Three years ago I started going to college here at Ashford University. I realized that I should set a good example for my children and my Marines by getting an education. I was majoring in social and criminal justice, but last year changed my major to education. I realized I enjoy teaching people and giving back to the community. I chose to major in education because I want to give back to the community. I enjoy the look on people’s faces when they figure something out that you taught them. When I am not working or going to school, I like to spend time with my family, do things outdoors, play sports, and work with my hands. I am also a huge Green Bay Packer Fan; I even own part of the team!
