Jaguar News
Volume 1, Issue 17 - December 15, 2017
The end of the semester and Winter Break is almost here! Although we want to start celebrating the Holidays early, please keep your students focused on school through December 21st. They will have plenty time to relax and spend time with friends! Students will return to school January 4.
There will be no Jaguar News next week!
Happy Holidays!
Student Council - Pajama Day!
On Tuesday, December 19th our Student Council will be sponsoring Pajama Day! Bring $1 and be allowed to participate. Tables will be set up by the main office and at the bus door entrance for students to pay in advance (Monday) and on the day of the event so that students can collect their wristband. Students must be wearing their wristband in order to participate. All proceeds raised will go to the Gentry Student Council. Please keep in mind that our normal GMS dress code rules still apply. Hats and slippers will not be permitted.
Chili Supper and Silent Auction Fundraiser
Our 4th annual Chili Supper and Silent Auction Fundraiser is right around the corner! This year it will take place after our winter break on Tuesday, January 9th from 4:30-6:00 pm. All proceeds will go to our amazing Gentry athletics program. The value of athletics in our school is significant and cannot be overlooked. It has a profound impact on our students and the school as a whole. It can bridge gaps, bring students with relatively nothing in common together and gives students unbelievable, life-altering opportunities.
Facts about GMS athletics:
- Gentry has approximately 375-400 student athletes who compete in various sports each year.
- The CPS budget for athletics is the same for every middle school in Columbia despite our very large student population.
- Between the costs for replacement uniforms/equipment, transportation expenses and salaries to cover the cost of officials, GMS usually exhausts our allotted budget well before the school year is over.
- We couldn’t keep our athletic program running efficiently without the support of our great Gentry families!!
With that being said, and as the weather begins to get down-right cold, please plan on enjoying us for supper and a ball game for a good cause! Tickets are $7 each (in advance) and will get you a warm bowl of chili with the fixin’s, a hot dog, cookie and a beverage. Your ticket price will also include admission into our 8th grade boys basketball game vs. OLLIS scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm that same night. Go Jaguars!

Tardies
Our students are taking attendance really seriously, and 7th graders are rocking it! Nothing like competition among grades to have the students rushing to class to make it on time! This week our students reduced their tardies almost in half! Keep in mind that these are the ALL the tardies ALL the students in the grade combined had for the week! We are hearing great stories from our teachers about how students are changing their habits, and how conversations about being on time are occurring on a daily basis!
The following students were recognized for being on time to all their classes last week:
6th Grade
Tammy Martin
Brandon Rodgers-Stemmle
7th Grade
Finn Cody
Brady Bowers
8th Grade
Anthony Bolten
Noah Janicki
This week we also recognized Mrs. Off and Ms. Crane for getting their students on time to class! They get to choose when to wear jeans!
Way to go, Jaguars!
