Remote Learning Expectations
Dear ARK Families,
As we prepare to embark on the start of a new school year as full remote learners, I wanted to highlight what you can expect over the first few weeks and how Knight teachers will be running virtual classrooms.
Your child's teacher will or has already reached out to you in order to introduce themselves and share details related to his/her classroom. One of the most important things you'll want to do after receiving communication from your child's teacher is to log into your child's Google Classroom site. This will serve as the hub for all things remote learning.
A focus our teachers have at the start of any school year is relationship development and team building. This will continue to be an essential aspect of the ARK experience throughout the year. We believe all learning begins with building a solid foundation built upon trust and respect for all members of our learning community.
If the pace of core academic instruction seems a bit slow at first, give it time, building a close knit classroom community is essential to ensuring a successful school year for all involved. As the pace picks up, expect teachers to conduct various instructional assessments to gauge student achievement across all content areas.
Please know that the start of this year will be different than last spring. Heightened expectations will be in place regarding daily attendance and participation in live interactions with your teacher(s). Below are what you need to know as Tuesday, September 8, the first day of our 2020 - 2021 school year, quickly approaches.
- School is in session from 9:00 am - 3:30 pm. Students are expected to be logged on and ready to learn with their teacher online between these times.
- Students must log in to their Morning Meeting via Google Meet or Zoom promptly at 9:00am. Attendance for the day will be taken at this time. When students are late, it is disruptive to the other students who were on time.
- Teachers will inform students when it's an appropriate time to step away from the computer, take a break, work independently, report to their daily encore class, etc.
- Students should also be dressed and in an appropriate learning environment. Starting the day in pajamas and laying in bed makes it difficult to be fully engaged in the learning experience. We recommend creating a learning conducive space where your child will be able to fully engage with their teacher and peers.
- Lunch/Recess will take place daily from 12:00 - 12:50 pm.
Please reach out to your child's teacher(s) if you have specific questions related to the instructional day, online tools, or general class questions.
This will surely be a year of new experiences for all of us. As we've seen, things change quickly and I've heard the word "pivot" used more often this year than ever before.
As a community, we must be flexible and demonstrate compassion towards one another. Our staff is well aware of all the challenges that families are facing and will work towards meeting needs. I ask that families also show compassion towards our staff as they are learning how to most effectively use technology and shift pedagogy to continue providing the top notch education that ARK has been known to deliver.
WE ARE...ARK Knight!
Sincerely,
Mr. Eugene Park
