Grandpa, Grandpa

Word Work
This week in Word Work we will...
rhyming Words
isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel, and final sounds in three-phoneme words.
write a letter or letters for most consonant and short-vowel sounds (phonemes).
- review sight words: come, with, me, go, in, the, what, will, we for get, one, two, three
Shared Reading
This week in shared reading we will...
identify word meanings.
make connections between a text and our own lives.
identify character dialogue.
identify how text features contribute to the meaning of a text.
Grammar/Writing
This week is Grammar and Writing we will...
draw and write in order to respond to a text.
draw and write in order to inform.
identify sounds in words, then writing the matching letters.
compare "ear spelling" to "book spelling."
use verbs (present tense and past tense) correctly.
Centers
This week in Centers we will...
- practice sight words,
- follow directions in order to create an ocean relief picture.

Math
Unit 5: Make a Shape: Build a Block
Investigation 1: Describing and Making 2-D Shapes
This week in math we will...
turn 2-D shapes into objects by adding to a shape.
describe rectangles, circles, triangles, and squares.
explore with pattern blocks, clay, and Geoboards.
Content
This week in Content we will ...
exploring with objects to see if they sink or float.
learn about why objects sink and float.
Salad Garden
Tomorrow our class will be starting our salad garden project. We will be planting lettuce and radish seeds. We will care for these plants until harvest time. We will then enjoy the fruit (vegetables) of or labor with a salad party. I will post more information as we get closer to harvest time.
Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) Field Trip
On Wednesday, April 5th, we will be going to the BMA. Since we will not get back until 1:00 we are requesting that you send in a snack that your child can take with them to get them through until we return. to school.

Thursday - Library (return library books)
Friday - Dance (wear sneakers)
Volunteer Training
Birthday Celebration
We will celebrate monthly birthdays on the last Friday (if possible) of each month. Parents are welcome to celebrate their child's birthday with us. Please make sure that you have completed and returned the volunteer application and training/certificate. There is no food allowed at these celebrations. However, your child may choose to share a book for our class library, a game for indoor or outdoor recess, a small item like a pencil, or a craft to do during the celebration.
