2/11/2019: Your Weekly Update for Mayfield Intermediate

Bikes for Bobcats!

We would like to thank Dr. Daczkowski from Daczkowski Orthodontics for continuing to support our bobcats with the Bikes for Bobcats program. Students receive raffle tickets to put into our Bikes for Bobcat raffle. They can receive tickets from teachers for being recognized for great literacy skills, being a good citizen, or being a good role model. We had 2 winners last week and we will show the students receiving their bikes in next week's Mayfield Messenger.

Our students presented Dr. D. with his very own Mayfield Bobcat polo shirt as a way to say thanks. We really appreciate his commitment to our school and community.

Thank you Dr. D.

African American History Month

Students at Mayfield Intermediate School will be learning about African American History throughout the month of February. All language arts teachers and social studies teachers recently received the book 28 Days: Moments in Black History that Changed the World. This book highlights 28 individuals who made significant contributions that changed the world. I can't wait to see our teachers and students sharing these stories with one another.

Also, you will find a flier that is attached regarding an event that is being held at the Manassas Museum this weekend in honor of the Ebony Doughboys. Please see the attached flier for more information. It looks like a great event.

National School Counseling Week

Last week was National School Counseling Week and we celebrated our wonderful school counselors and our TDT counselors. We have a great team working together within our counseling department making sure that our students are receiving the needed supports in order to be successful in our school and community.

Thank you Ms. Peterson, Mrs. Dutchess and Ms. Thomasson for all the work you do with our Mayfield Bobcats. Also, thank you to our wonderful TDT counselors: Mr. Johnston, Ms. Hallahan, Ms. Deieta, Ms. Neston, and Ms. Waldo. We are very fortunate at Mayfield.

WIDA Access Practice

Many students at Mayfield Intermediate School will be participating in the WIDA Access Test in the coming weeks. The WIDA Access Test is an assessment that helps schools monitor a students acquisition of the English language. WIDA advances academic language development and academic achievement for children and youth who are culturally and linguistically diverse through high quality standards, assessments, research, and professional learning for educators. Below you can find information for your child to practice for the WIDA Access test at home. Your child's ESOL teacher has also provided this information to your child while they were at school.

Round Elementary's Shamrock Run!

For the 20th year Round Elementary School will be hosting their Shamrock Run event. The event is a 5K run and/or a 1 mile fun run/walk. I know that I will be getting out and running throughout the community as I prepare to participate in the March 16th event. How many students, staff members, and families from Mayfield Intermediate will I see there?
