The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction has determined that in-person assessment is the only viable method for state assessments. The company that produces the test has no remote testing option available. On-site testing ensures standardized administration that includes equitable access to technology and optimal testing environments, test security, and validity. Please know, we will follow COVID-19 mitigation strategies of handwashing, masking, and social distancing to keep all students safe during testing sessions.
While the state of Wisconsin expects all students to complete the assessments during the testing date or window, we recognize there may be situations where parents or guardians want to excuse their child from testing. If you’d like to excuse your child from Forward Exam testing, please call the school office to request more information regarding this option. School personnel do not have the authority to excuse a child from testing without written parental approval.

Wausau School District Mask Policy
All staff, students aged 5 and older, and visitors will be required to wear a face covering that covers the nose and mouth at all times while in Wausau School District buildings except during the following activities:
Face coverings can be removed outside as long as 6 feet of distance is maintained.
Face coverings may be temporarily removed to eat or drink, but care should be taken to maintain as much space as possible between people, recognizing it is not always feasible to maintain 6 feet of distance from others.
People who are entering the school building during the day may be required by school staff to briefly remove their face covering for the purposes of checking identification.
Staff working alone in their offices, classrooms, vehicles, or other job locations who do not have any person-to-person interaction.
When communicating with a person who is deaf or hard of hearing or has a disability, medical condition, or mental health condition that makes communication with a face covering difficult, provided that social distancing is maintained to the extent possible.
A letter on letterhead will be required from a Physician or Licensed Mental Health Practitioner in order for any staff, student aged 5 and older or visitor to be exempt from wearing a face covering.
Protocol if a student refuses to wear a face covering or continuously removes their face covering:
1st offense: Verbal reminder from staff member and reteach of safety protocol
**Additional reteaching depending on age of student
2nd offense: Teacher will contact the parent/guardian and administrator will be notified
3rd offense: The student will be placed in a virtual classroom and will be required to learn remotely.
Protocol if a parent refuses to send a child with a face covering:
Inform the parent that their child must wear a face covering to receive in-person instruction in a WSD building. If the parent still refuses, the child will be placed in a virtual learning classroom.
