Have you ever thought of how blessed you are to be in America? This past week the 8th grade was able to experience what it was like to come to America through Ellis Island NY back in the early 1900's. Each student was given a biography of individuals coming from Russia, Germany, Ireland, Scandinavia, and many other countries that they had to learn about. Then they went through a imitation immigration set up in our library. For most this experience ended with a loyaty oath and admitance into America, only a few were rejected and sent back to their home country.

The Young Peacemaker - Week 11
Lesson 11
β Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouth, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their deeds, that it may benefit those who listen.β (Eph. 4:29)
(The big Idea) Respectful communication is more likely to be heard.
(The main points)
1. The communication pie
The communication pie consists of the following pieces:
Respectful words
Respectful tone of voice
Respectful body language
Respectful, listening
Use I messages to communicate words in a respectful way. If you use respectful words, but a disrespectful tone of voice, you will be sending a double message. The right tone of voice is respectful, and considerate.
Respectful, body language:
Eye contact means that you look respectfully at someoneβs eyes when you are speaking or listening to them.
Facial expressions can tell others how you feel without using words.
Your body posture will often show if you are taking an interest in what others are saying to you.
Gestures are a type of body language that is usually done with hands and arms.
If you listen respectfully to others, they may be more willing to listen to you.
2. Consider the best time and place to communicate.
Choose a time when the other person is not busy or distracted. It is usually best to ask permission, share feelings or concerns, make requests, or lovingly confront others in private.
