We have a lot of good news to share with you this month! We are excited to announce that Weaverville Elementary performed well according to EOG tests at the end of last school year! Thank you for your support in helping us continue to grow in this area! Please see some of the highlights below:

  • Weaverville Elementary ranked 1st in the county in our Overall Reading Score!
  • Weaverville Elementary ranked 5th in the county in our Overall Math Score!
  • Weaverville Elementary ranked 3rd in the county for combined Reading and Math proficiency!

A HUGE thank you to our parents, staff and students for their hard work and dedication to student learning!

I would like to give Ms. Allie Snyder a shout-out for being named the Buncombe County Schools Beginning Teacher of the Year! This is a program sponsored by NCCAT (https://www.nccat.org/) and we are extremely proud of Ms. Snyder! We also need to congratulate Mrs. Amanda Fields for being named the Buncombe County Schools Math Teacher of the Year! We actually had three teachers in the finals for this award! Mrs. Fields will have her registration and related expenses to the NCCTM's 2019 Annual Leadership Fall Math Conference paid for by Buncombe County Schools! Click here for a link to the Facebook Live video of the surprise announcement! If you are not on Facebook, the story should be posted to the main BCS website soon!

NC is now using I-Station to assess your child's reading level. Our former system, mClass, is no longer used. Please read below to find out more information about I-Station.

I-Station Resources for Parents

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction is pleased to provide K-3 students 24-7 home access to reading practice, interactive books, and educational resources from Istation. Supporting the Read to Achieve diagnostic initiative with reading assessments at school, Istation also includes home access to fun and dynamic literacy-based activities.

Istation is an award-winning program that is used by over 4 million students because it:

  • measures the skills that are most predictive of future reading success
  • seamlessly tracks student progress throughout the year
  • provides a comprehensive snapshot of reading ability
  • engages the student with animated, game-like activities

What’s Included?

  • Personalized Data Profiles: Track student progress throughout the year and with real-time, easy-to-read reports.
  • Parent Portal: Houses skill-building lessons that a parent can do with their child and includes printable materials.
  • Ipractice: Where students can go to captain their own interactive learning adventure through games, stories, songs, and more

We appreciate your patience with us as we work to learn how to read and utilize the data reports from I-Station. Please know that we are working diligently to be able to use this information to meet the instructional needs of your child. Change is hard and this will take us a little time to adjust.

The PTO Blackhawks Fun Run is coming this Friday!

Thank you to our PTO for their hard work! Thank you all for your support of this fundraiser! We are so thankful our PTO selects a fundraiser that incorporates positive character traits, support healthy activity and allows us to have fun! We appreciate your support!

School-wide PBIS Goal

Our students are expected to follow the HAWKS Leadership Expectations so we can all learn and grow in a safe and respectful environment. When students are 'caught' doing an outstanding job, they are given a Hawk High Five. We set a school goal of earning 500 Hawk High Fives before November 15th. If we meet this goal, then all students* will attend the UNC-A Education Day on December 2nd.

*Students who accumulate 3 or more office referrals and/or 10 or more minor reports will not be invited to attend.
