Comet Connection

Keeping you connected with Silver City ES!

ADMIN UNIVERSE

Week of August 31, 2020

Comets,

What a great start to the school year this has been! Thank you for helping us create an incredibly smooth start, even with all the new procedures, expectations, and restrictions. I know getting used to all this has been challenging, but our students have done incredibly well and they are used to doing their part to help us all stay safe. They know to Mask Up, Wash Up, Cover Up, Back Up, and Clean Up.

As you know, it is critical that we be able to maintain close communication with our Silver City families, so I cannot stress how important it is to update and maintain your contact information in Parent Portal, including who can check-out your child in addition to yourself (spouse, non-household members, etc.). These changes usually take 24-48 hours to take effect, so be proactive and go ahead and add in a close family friend, neighbor, or relative who can pick-up your child if you ever get in a bind. It is always best to plan ahead!

Parent portal information is also crucial so you can receive emails and updates from the school, as well as the District office. Another important step is to ensure that the emails we send out DO NOT GO TO JUNK. You will physically have to go into your Junk/Spam folders and "allow" emails from the school/district email address (messenger@forsyth.k12.ga.us) to be delivered to your inbox. We have noticed this issue recently, so please check on this and correct it ahead of time!

Thank you so much,

Mr. Sloop

COVID-19 Updates and Information

Restart Forsyth Website

This website is the best way to keep up-to-date and current with District information on our procedures, guidelines, and communication regarding COVID-19.

COVID-19 Parent Communication Video

We know you want to be informed if there are any positive COVID cases in your child's classroom. This video and presentation walks you through the process of how we will keep you informed. It is imperative your contact information in Parent Portal is up-to-date and you receive our messages in your inbox.

Please know that if there has been a direct exposure, we will call and email you and someone from the Department of Public Health will also contact you with instructions. If someone has been diagnosed in the classroom, but there has been no direct exposure to your child, you will receive an email from Silver City stating that.

Always feel free to call Nurse Kacey (x350219) or one of the administrators if you have any questions.

COVID-19 Symptoms to Monitor

This checklist will help you monitor your child for symptoms that MAY indicate COVID-19. Do not come to school if your child is symptomatic or awaiting test results and please communicate this information with your child's teacher and our school nurse.

Parents, please help us by modeling expectations at home, at bus stops, and on the weekends by practicing social distancing, wearing masks, washing/sanitizing hands frequently, covering up sneezes and coughs, and cleaning up our areas.

Comet Summit - Thursday, Sept. 10 from 6-7pm

Comet Summitt is going VIRTUAL this year. We hope you can join us LIVE to hear from your child's teacher about math and literacy curriculum in their grade level, as well as Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) in our school. Sessions will also be recorded so you can check out the information if you happen to miss one.

You will also have the opportunity to meet our Pathways teachers, special education teachers, speech language pathologists (SLPs), instructional support coaches, early intervention program (EIP) teachers, counselors, ESOL teacher and gifted teacher through video-taped messages. Some of these teachers will also provide a link to set-up a virtual check-in if you would like to do that between 3:30-5:30pm on that same afternoon (Thursday, Sept. 10).

If you are able to join us LIVE from 6-7pm, your teacher will give you a CODE to enter your name into a drawing for a brand new chromebook!!

Silver City Elementary Book Club

Each student received information about our Birthday Book Club in the open house folders. This is a great way to help our media center and at the same time honor the birthday of your child. We have had numerous families participate so far and are able to add several, new books to our media center for check-out! Based on this great response, we are extending the deadline to this Friday, September 4th for those that may still be interested.

Your child's teacher will be sending the book club form home again, so please fill that out (see below) and send it in with $20 cash or check (made payable to SCES).
