Math
IxL Math Website: Students were assigned Ixl skills to help support their understanding of multiplication and division concepts. The skills that align with Topic One have been starred. You can use these skill on IxL to help reinforce or support your child's learning with extra practice.
Math Learning Procedures: Here is an over view of how our math lessons are taught. Students are responsible for completing each of these parts of the lesson. Please check your student's math text books to make sure they are following along and writing down the examples that we are working on together as well as the parts they are responsible for doing independently. Lessons 1-1, 1-3 ,1-4, 1-5, 1-6 should be filled out in their math text books.
- Solve and Share: We will be doing this problem based learning experience together as a whole group. Students need to apply their problem solving skills and strategies to find a solution to a problem. We will discus the essential question and the purpose of the lesson. Students are responsible for participating and recording their thinking in their math books using pictures, diagrams, numbers and words.
- Visual Learning Bridge: The visual learning is an animation in video form or in the math book that explains the concept and increases conceptual understanding. Students can go back and watch the video on their math website page if they need to review or go back and read the text book.
- Guided and Independent Practice: This portion of the lesson will also be done in the text book. The guide practice help to explain and practice the concept with the teacher. The independent practice is used to reinforce and check for understanding.
- Quick Checks: After every lesson, students are required to complete a quick check on the Envisions Math Website. This way I can assess for understanding and go back and reteach to students who need more support. I can also assign "Another Look" Videos to help with reteaching. Students will do a Quick check almost everyday. If they don't finish it during the school day then it is homework.
Reflex Math: Reflex math needs to be done 3 or more times a week. The students work on the website until they get the green light. This should take about 20 minutes. I have been assigning Reflex Math to be done on Math Days (Tuesday and Thursday) and on Friday during afternoon independent work time.
Other Ways to support your student:
Use pennies, goldfish crackers, legos, macaroni noodles or the objects from around the house and have your student put them into equal group. Help them think of multiplication as equal groups by giving your child a multiplication fact such as 4 x 3 and make put objects into rows and columns to make arrays.
When talking about division, help them think of division as sharing equally. Give them a whole number such a 32 and have your student break up the whole number in 8 goups to find out how many are in each group.
Topic 2 Multiplication Facts: Use Patterns
In the next topic, we will be learning to multiply using 0,1,2,5,9, and 10 as factors Skip counting patterns can help your child with multiplication facts. Student will use prior knowledge of skip counting and making patterns to see that patterns also exist in multiplication.

Science: Animal Through Time Unit 1
Expectations:
Students are expected to do one lesson everyday. They watch the teacher recorded video and fill out their science packet as they watch the video. It is very important that students are completing the assignment and filling out their packet because they are allowed to use the packet and Mystery Science video when taking the Quiz on Day 4. Assignments are always posted on Sparks of Science Team and students need to take accountability for completing their work during this independent work time.
Assignment Notebook
Students should be writing down their daily assignments in their assignment notebook. That way, parents can check the assignment notebook to make sure your student is keeping up with the assigned work. Any work that is not completed during the day is homework and students can check off the completed work as they are going along in their assignment notebook. I have also been posting pictures of the assignment notebook in Teams on my Homeroom Team. You can find it in the "files" tab at the top. I have been posting pictures so that parents know how I am writing down and keeping tracking of assignments and that your student is writing down the same thing. I give students many reminders and opportunities to write down and complete work. Please make sure you are checking your child's assignment notebook every night
