STEM Updates
July 2021
A Message from the Superintendent
STEM Family,
Summer is here and we are in full swing preparing for our upcoming school year! We are excited to welcome back our students on August 10th to a more “normal” school environment. Masks will be optional for students and staff, while other health and safety measures such as cleaning and sanitation will continue to be in effect. All students will be face-to-face learners with the school day being M-Th 7:50-2:15pm and F 7:50-12:00pm.
Recently, Dr. Woodley announced the intent to pursue a partnership with ECISD. The process of becoming partners is expected to take time, we are looking at beginning the potential partnership in the school year of 2022-2023. I am excited for the new opportunities the partnership has to offer our students such as competing in sports and participating in fine arts while continuing to enjoy the learning environment and model of STEM. The shared goal in the partnership is to have STEM remain as close to what it is now and simply add additional opportunities for students which would enhance the learning experience for all. In this partnership we also hope to build new facilities for STEM on the UTPB campus. Again, the process of building new facilities could take several years, in the meantime we will continue to update and maintain the current STEM facilities to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment for our students.
I will be providing the STEM community with progress updates during the school year through newsletters and emails. We will also be having a live “back to school” virtual meeting on July 26th at 6pm to give more information on the potential partnership as well as information on all the back to school events for August. Be watching your emails for a link to the live virtual event.
Please feel free to email us with any questions at stemacad@utpb.edu.
Sincerely,
Shannon Davidson

How to Access STAAR Scores
This year, STAAR results will not be posted until JUNE 28th. STAAR results can show families and teachers how disruptions to instruction over the past year impacted learning. Next year, teachers can use results along with report cards and family input to create plans that support their child’s academic progress. Scores are for assessing learning levels only and are meant to show where your child is meeting grade-level expectations in each subject and where they may need additional support. Scores are grouped into four categories: does not meet, approaches grade level, meets grade level, and masters grade level.
Instructions for accessing your child's information are outlined below:
- Use this link to get started: https://txparentportal.emetric.net/login
- Click the blue link labeled "Lookup Unique Access Code".
- You will enter your child's name and social security number to look up their access code.
- You will now return to the main link and enter the access code and birthdate.
- Scores will NOT be posted until after June 28th.
STEM Uniform Store
Stone Tower Graphix will open the STEM uniform store for one month starting June 14th! The store will close on July 14th. This will allow plenty of time to get those orders out to you before school starts. The site will then reopen early August.
Thank You!
Stock the Lounge!
It’s such a special treat for our teachers to have access to snacks and drinks during their work day! Let’s start their school year off right! PTO is reaching out for help stocking both lounges before school starts. Anything donated is greatly appreciated!
Boys and Girls Club
Health Department Immunization Clinics
PRE-K Clinic: June 22,23,24 from 8:30-11:30 &1:30-4:00 the fee will be waived and it will be walk-in. They are trying to minimize the registration process to only what is required by the state. On those dates we will be offering Dtap/Polio/MMR/Varicella/HepA but if we have a student missing more than those they will be scheduled to the reserved dates of June 28th and 29th. This way the clinic runs quickly and smoothly.
7th Grade Clinic: July 20,21,22 from 8:30-11:30 &1:30-4:00 the fee will be waived and it will be walk-in. On those dates they will be administering TDAP/MCV4 and offering HPV, but if a student missing more than those they will be scheduled to our reserved dates of July 26th and July 27th.
With COVID rules they will be waiting in a line outside and we will have runners checking paperwork prior to immunizations.
See the flyers below.

Secondary Updates
Dear MS/HS Parents,
This month's newsletter is full of valuable information. Please take a moment to look through all the different flyers for numerous opportunities for your child.
There are a few items I want to draw special attention to. First is the back to school orientation events for MS & HS. These orientations are an opportunity for our new 6th/9th graders but also students new to our campus. I hope you will bring your supplies to also get your free dress band.
The second item are the events that will happen after the orientations. We are in the process of planning a High School Luau, but the Middle School Balloon War is set. We hope all of our students are ready for some old-fashion fun. Please encourage your child to attend. Building friendships outside the classroom is a great way to make a small campus feel like a family.
The last item is the work day planned for July 14th. We have made some amazing progress on classroom moves but are needing one final push to the run up to school launch. If you are capable of assisting with the move we would greatly appreciate all hands that are available on July 14th.
We hope to see you there.
Enjoy the last month and half of vacation. This year we have some amazing goals to achieve with your young learners.
In Service to others,
Mr. Cody Griffin
