Scoria is simply dark colored, generally dark brown, black or purplish red, volcanic rocks with lots of variously sized and usually smooth sided holes. Its major minerals are plagioclase, pyroxene and olivine. Its minor mnerals may include apatite, biotite, hematite, hornblende, ilmenite, magnetite, and quartz. Scoria has a hardness of about 5 to 6. Scoria usually is the size of lapilli. Which is about 2-64mm. Scoriae texture is porous and/or Vesicular. Its luster is stony or glassy and It is an Igneous rock.
