Runyan Elementary Mission

At Runyan Elementary, we are a safe and welcoming community dedicated to student-focused learning driven by high expectations for all.

Construction at Runyan

As you know, Runyan will soon be getting a gym! Construction won't begin until the Summer, but there is a lot of work to be done before construction can begin. Starting next week, house movers will be relocating our portable classrooms to clear the construction site. If you notice heavy machinery around campus, that's what's going on.

2020-2021 School Calendar

PreKindergarten for the 2020-2021 School Year

Conroe ISD will be expanding all current half-day prekindergarten programs to full day in the 2020-2021 school year. Currently, Houser and Houston Elementary Schools are the only campuses to operate full-day prekindergarten programs. The expansion is in response to the House Bill 3 requirement that all prekindergarten programs operate as full-day programs. Registration for the 2020-2021 school year will take place April 20-24. Eligibility determination and enrollment will take place at the elementary school to which the student is zoned. Please visit www.conroeisd.net/ci/early-childhood/ for more information.

Upcoming Special Events

Book Fair -- February 24th-28th

Our book fair is open! We hope you'll take advantage of this economical and convenient way to bring more books into your home! You are invited to stop by any day during school hours; you'll need your driver's license / ID to sign into the school. The book fair will also be open late on Thursday, February 27th, during Science Night.

Science Night at Runyan -- February 27th

Please join us for Science Night this Thursday, February 27th, from 5:30-6:30. We'll have food and interactive activities. (We've got a plan for bigger crowds after the great turn-out we had for Math Night!) You'll also have an opportunity to visit the book fair and purchase some great books for you and your child to enjoy together!


PreKindergarten will also host their PK Parent Night the same evening, February 27th, from 6:00-6:45. They'll have lots of ideas for parents to support their child's success at home!


We hope to see everyone there!

Go Texan Day -- February 28th

On February 28th, the school will celebrate our rich Texas heritage! We'll have line dancing, a hay ride, farm animals, a chili cook-off, and lots of other traditional Texas-themed events! We hope everybody will dress "Texan" for the day. More information will be coming home soon...

Early Dismissal Day -- March 6th

Students will dismiss at 12:00 on March 6th. Buses will take bus riders home, but all others will need to make plans for their child to be picked up at 12:00. Please remember, whoever picks up your child will need to be listed as an emergency contact within your child's records, and s/he will need the dismissal sign and his/her ID.

Doughnuts with Dudes -- March 27th

Dads, uncles, brothers, grandpas, please join us from 7:20-7:45 on March 27th for doughnuts and quality time with the ones you love. Doughnuts, juice and coffee will be served in the Runyan cafeteria for all to enjoy. We're grateful for the special men in our lives!

Lost and Found

Please check the Lost and Found for any item(s) your child may have lost. We will donate unclaimed items at the end of the month.

PK / Kinder Bus Signs for Parents

As an added safety measure, the Transportation department began requiring those meeting a Pre-Kindergarten or Kindergarten student at the bus stop to have a sign identifying the student they were there to meet. These signs were distributed at the beginning of the year, but if you need a replacement, please let the front office know. Please bring the sign EVERY DAY, even if you and the bus driver have gotten to know each other by now. Drivers are directed by the transportation department to return children to school of the person meeting them doesn't have a sign, and the sign comes in very helpful in the case of a substitute driver. Thank you for your help in making sure our students are safe!

Safety Concern -- Cell Phones in the Car-Rider Line

A number of parents are using cell phones while driving in the car-rider line. This is unsafe and illegal. Cell phones distract drivers, and drivers need to be very alert with so many children around. Please help us keep children safe by putting away your cell phone while in the car-rider line.

Safety Procedures

Please remember you will always need an ID when visiting the school. As a matter of procedure, we scan a visitor's ID each time s/he visits, even if s/he is well known to the school staff. Situations change, and it is important for us to always check to make sure we have the most up-to-date information on visitors to our school. We appreciate your support in our commitment to making student safety our number one priority.

Important Arrival / Dismissal Procedures

The safety of our school community is our number one priority every day. At the same time, we understand everyone's time is valuable, so we also need to be efficient with the time we have. In order to maintain a safe and efficient environment with so many students, it is important for everyone to follow some basic procedures:


  • Doors open at 7:30 each morning. This is the earliest students may be dropped off for school. There is no supervision for students prior to that time, so please do not drop students off earlier than 7:30.
  • Students who dismiss as walkers must walk home. They may not be picked up by someone driving to the walker area in a car, even when the weather is bad. All students leaving school in a car must dismiss through the car-rider line, and cars may not park along the road to pick up a walker.
  • Cars may only make a right turn into the car-rider line. This means cars will have to drive West down Foster Dr. in order to turn right into the line. (Left turns will not be allowed.) Cars may join the car-rider line on Foster from Porter Road or from Cedar Crossing. Please do not make U-turns on Foster Drive, as it creates a safety hazard for drivers.
  • To make a dismissal change, parents may email the school at cesalas@conroeisd.net and include a picture of their driver's license. All dismissal change requests must be received BEFORE 2:45 so we have time to communicate the change to the dismissal duty staff.
