Study Skills & Preparing for the PSSAs
So far so good! Let's finish out strong!
This school year you have truly put your best foot forward! You have grown so much as both a learner and an individual! Keep doing your best and keep being you!
Preparing for the PSSAs
There are plenty of things you can do each and every day that will help you to do well on your PSSAs. Listed below are some helpful techniques. And guess what- these techniques don't even involve studying! (Check out http://kidshealth.org/en/kids/studying.html)
- Pay attention in class.
- Take good notes.
- Plan ahead for tests and projects.
- Break it down. (If you have what feels like a lot to learn, break it into smaller chunks.)
- Ask for help if you get stuck.
- Get a good night's sleep!
Do your best!
When you are handed your test, remember to do your best! Think about each question and take your time.
Study Ahead of Time!
We have put so much time into learning the concepts you will be tested on. As we learn new material, take it home and practice. Do your homework! Ask any questions you may have. There are no silly questions if the answer will help you learn!
Shh!
When testing remember to be quiet! This is your test and not to be worked on as a group or with your friends. Respect those around you who are still working if you are to finish early. Be mindful in the hallways, that other students may also be testing. If you have a question raise your hand, or quietly come to my desk.
How else can I prepare?
- Eat breakfast! It is hard to focus on an empty stomach!
- Don't be nervous! You've got this!
- Focus on what you are reading- don't be afraid to reread passages or questions.
- If you are unsure of what something could mean, use context clues.
- Highlight or circle things you find to be important.
- Read through all of the answers before selecting one.
- Have an extra pencil.
- Review your work.
