Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 10th June 2016
dragons win summer sports trophy
Congratulations to the winning team, Dragons who retained the summer sports trophy, but well done to everyone who participated so enthusiastically. The children had a fantastic time during sports day. Nursery and Reception held their postponed event in the morning. In the afternoon, all of Year 1 through to Year 6 put on their colourful house t-shirts and held their own sporting battle, competing in everything from 'potato and spoon' to sack races.

harewood house
The Reception children were lucky with the weather for their trip to Harewood House on Tuesday. Everyone enjoyed seeing the exotic birds and wondered what the penguins made of the heatwave! Thanks go to the staff who led the visit and parents who gave up their time to help.
What could you do with a fiver?
This was the question Year 5 faced on Monday morning, as Miss Hardy introduced them to the exciting 'Fiver Challenge'. This initiative is run by Young Enterprise and helps children to gain hands on experience of money management. Every child is presented with a £5 note which they will invest and return with interest by the end of June. Money making ideas the children have come up with so far range from cake stalls to car washing, so get ready to help these young entrepreneurs!

Message from the Cathedral
We have been spending some time with the children exploring the ideas of “faith” and “trust”…two concepts which are very closely entwined. Sharing some wonderful Old Testament stories tells us how a group of young Jewish boys in a foreign land can put themselves entirely in God’s hands and endure terrible personal danger rather than deny their one true God. Hence Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego emerge unscathed from the fiery furnace and Daniel doesn’t have so much as a scratch after spending the night in the lions’ den. Such was their faith and trust in God that they knew their prayers would be answered.
There is a wonderful quote which puts this in a modern context:
“Faith is like Wi-Fi. It’s invisible, but it has the power to connect you to what you need.”
We all have our personal perils to endure and we should have faith that God is always there to give us strength and to find blessings in all we do, if we just put our trust in him.
Heavenly Father,
Help us to have eyes that see the best,
A heart that forgives the worst,
And a soul that never loses faith.
Amen
