Matt's Monday Memo
March 11, 2019
Good morning all.
What a great last week with all the programming around All Write. There is much to reminisce and celebrate, but I like best our “surprises” and the opportunities they provide us. In spite of dutiful preparation, our “comedian” was very much out of bounds in material and manner. This forced our All Write team to huddle and respond with communication that more clearly defined our shared culture and values. In follow-up conversations with parents and students, we were able to affirm the value of our students and how art forms should recognize and provide space to contemplate the highs and lows of the human experience, but not at the expense of others. As I have thought more about this and other aspects of the week, this is perhaps most true when power is introduced into the conversation. I am continuing to learn more about our school, how artists express themselves, and how we can best serve our staff and students through programming like All Write. I am hopeful we can humbly partner in that learning as we do our good work each day.
I am more than hopeful you have taken to time to contact families to fill your dance card for conferences this week. If you have gaps in your scheduled time, please accept walk-ups as we attempt to maximize our time to work together. We will have additional reminders as we approach Tuesday night--please let us know if you need support in any aspect. Have a great week and restful break next week.
Regards,
Matt

I encourage you to submit a worthy senior candidate for the prestigious Eagle Award. This award is one of our highest recognitions and is very special. Nominated students are recognized at Senior Awards Night. Nominate here.
Parent-Teacher Conferences are Tuesday and Wednesday—all teachers are expected to be in attendance. Conferences run from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. tomorrow and 12:50 – 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Please keep conferences to a maximum of 7 minutes, preferably 5-7 minutes. Don't forget to check your roster from PTCFast for the scheduled conferences.
Pizza will be served for dinner in the main office (3:00 p.m.) on Tuesday for everybody. On Wednesday, we will have boxed lunches for everyone who signed up (your box will be labeled with your name).
With spring break approaching, please remember that we have a closed campus. Although alumni like to come and visit, we will turn them away. Also, former students are only allowed to visit after 2:35 p.m.
I have had a number of requests wanting to know the status of the building being open next week. The building will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. I suggest entering Senior Entrance – the others most likely will be locked.
It is very important that you lock your classroom whenever you are away.
