- Post your objective for every lesson. This can be in the form of an I can statement but that statement should reflect your grade level TEKS. All of our curriculum documents include essential questions & objectives. If asked, students should be able to say what they are learning, why they are learning it & how they will show they are successful.
- Use every moment you have with your kids. Kids begin arriving in your classroom at 7:40. Once announcements begin, morning activities should be complete. Once announcements are over, the instructional days should begin. If you feel your morning meetings should be moved to a later time in the morning, please let me know so that I can adjust the schedule. Some teachers may be feeling like instruction needs to begin asap.
- Make sure all kids have their student id when they go to lunch. Doing so, will help Ana out tremendously!
- Lesson plans should be in our shared staff Google folder by 7:30 am Monday morning. Make sure your grade level/department (K-4 & Fine Arts) has this completed weekly. Remember that you do have access to all grade levels lessons.
Thanks so much everyone for your continued help and dedication to make Sunset Valley so special! I am beyond proud to be a part of such a great campus.

Classroom Walkthroughs - These are a few of my favorite things!
- I love to hear kids talking to one another about the lesson. Student to student conversations are so fun to hear and watch.
- I love to hear your conversations with kids. Your questioning strategies will ensure that kids are given the opportunity to think more deeply.
- I love it when the "product" of a lesson, or what the kids create or work on, is different from one another. This shows the kids creativity and excitement for learning.
- I love it when a kid can tell me what he/she is learning and why they are learning it. And I get even more excited when they can tell me how they will know they are successful too.
- I love to get back to my office, look at your lesson plans & the curriculum units you are teaching, and write up all the great things I saw in a walkthrough form that I will then send you. This form will be from STRIVE and in the future will also include a campus made one that will be emailed to you.
- I love to sit down with you afterwards to here how you feel everything went, share all the glows with you that I observed and hear what supports you need so that you can continue to grow.
College Colors Day is Wednesday, August 29
Let's ALL go ALL OUT this year! Wear your college colors & your best jeans proudly!
2018-2019 Instructional Resources
Teachers College Reading & Writing Project (TCRWP) Resources
At the end of the school year, I was able to use the last of our budget to purchase additional TCRWP resources. 1st grade received the TCRWP Classroom Library that included 689 books.
I will now be ordering a set for Kindergarten that will include a whopping 706 books! These titles are on grade level and include Levels A-F as well as sets of concept books, emergent, read alouds, shared reading & poetry. This classroom library also includes TCRWP Classroom Libraries Tools & Resources Pack with Guide. I continue to make a plan purchase more of these same sets for other grade levels in the future. The cost for each grade level library is as follows:
- Kinder - $4,600
- 1st - $4,200
- 2nd - $3,800
- 3rd - $3,500
- 4th - $5,200
