Onstage drama excursion
On Wednesday 12 February the HSC drama class attended an excursion to Onstage. Onstage is a collection of high achieving Individual and Group performances from last year's HSC class. The performance brings together over 30 different performances from public, catholic and private schools from all over the state. All groups and individual performances achieved either a Band 5 or 6 and were of a very high standard.
The excursion is an extremely important date on the Drama calendar as it shows current HSC students the standard that is expected. There is also an opportunity for those students not completing a performance IP (individual project) to see designs and portfolios from the various other IP options available. It was a very impressive performance and our students were spurred on by the challenge of doing better than those we saw on stage. Our students represented the college fantastically and I am very proud of the way they conducted themselves.
Special mention to Julian who managed to get the crowd to do a Mexican wave before the show.
The following is a reflection completed by Isabelle Brown-Rogers on her impressions of the excursion.
The Year 12 Drama class travelled into Newtown to watch the best HSC performances from last year. We had the opportunity to view the individual projects, such as stage and costume design, which were absolutely incredible. It was fantastic to see the amount of detail some students had put into their work. We were all blown away by the professionalism and high standard of the performances shown at Onstage.
There were tears of both happiness and sadness as we watched the variety of performances that ranged from hilarious group performances about German soldiers, to emotional and powerful individual performances based on mental health. We all thoroughly enjoyed our time at Onstage and it was a very beneficial day for the class providing each one of us with inspiration and motivation for our upcoming HSC projects and performances.

Year 12 University and TAFE Campus Tour
On Thursday 6 February the Year 12 cohort had the opportunity to attend either a tour of the University of Wollongong or TAFE Campbelltown. This was a whole day event where the students attended various lectures and activities to experience life at either a University or TAFE campus.
Now let’s hear from some of the students:
The University of Wollongong (UOW) Discovery Day was an insightful event that provided us students with an understanding of university life in a welcoming and engaging manner. The diverse range of sessions available allowed my peers and I to gain a brief overview on our courses of interest and engage in campus activities such as workshops. The company of friendly staff made this day even more beneficial through their help and support as it promoted a fun atmosphere when exploring the university. Overall, it was an eventful day that was not only significant, but essential for us Year 12 Students to become engaged in the possibilities of our future and develop a sense of independence when approaching a potential pathway after the HSC.

The University Day on Thursday 6 February was an interesting day that provided students with a slice of university life. We each had our own snapshot of the environment, people and classes we could choose to attend. You find out quickly that University is dissimilar to school in a variety of ways. The lectures are in halls, the campus is a lot larger, and there are a lot more people. Whilst it was informative in terms of the lectures, I found more interest in the environment. We arrived with students we’d never seen before, it was difficult to make friends, as you would guess, as it was only one day. But we got to tour the campus and found many fast food and snack options available for us to buy on campus. I mean, they even had a subway! All in all it was a good experience for the year in seeing a glimpse of what life will be like after high school.

On Thursday, 6 February forty Year 12 students attended an excursion to TAFE Campbelltown, whilst the rest of the year group attended an excursion to the University of Wollongong.
Students got to experience a variety of different and interesting courses such as, Hospitality, Engineering, Digital Art, Design, Community Service, Children Services and Business Administration and a lot about TAFE services in general such as Student Support officers who can assist you with your application for a TAFE course at the end of Year 12.
The Hospitality department had great facilities and told us about the courses they offer such as Commercial Cookery and Hospitality Management. The Engineering department gave us a better idea of what you need to do if you want to do an apprenticeship in Engineering - Fabrication Trade (Heavy Fabrication), as a Metal Fabricator or Welder, in industries such as heavy transport, mining, ship building or bridge building. Digital Art and Design gave us more information about the TAFE courses available which lead to exciting employment opportunities for those who have a passion for this industry. The Community Services department presented courses at TAFE which lead to a career in Community Care, Juvenile Justice, Neighbourhood Centres, Youth Housing Support and more. Business Administration gave us more information about working in an office environment which can lead to other opportunities in a company.
TAFE is a great way to become qualified for a job if you are not interested in studying at University because it shows us that there are always other options out there. We were shown a wide range of course offerings at Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma and Degree level. We also loved the fact that we got to walk around the TAFE as a group as we explored the campus. Our grade would like to thank the teachers for providing us with this great opportunity.
