Teamwork Indeed Makes the Dream Work!
I have been energized by the staff awards we have added this month. I believe that teachers are not appreciated nearly enough. However, I am excited that we will begin celebrating two staff members each month: Micro Elementary Employee of the Month Award and the Micro Elementary Great Teammate Award! I cannot wait to see who receives next month's recognitions! Congratulations (again) Mrs. Johnson and Mr. Taylor!
We have a building full of superstars!
Keep being awesome for kids! Keep being a great teammate!
Each student counts and every moment matters!
Micro Elementary is the small school where BIG things happen...thanks to you!

Micro Headlines
- February 11th-15th is Love the Bus Week! We have purchased special treats to offer our bus drivers. Please help us celebrate by helping students write cards and thank you notes to these unsung heroes. Thank you bus drivers!
- The district is hosting an Innovation Expo on May 31 from 9:00 am - 11:00 am at the Johnston Medical Mall. Educators and students who want to showcase an innovative practice are invited to present, and those who want to learn more about innovation in our district are invited to attend. Innovative practices include, but are not limited to, project-based learning, personalized learning, digital learning, and social-emotional learning. (Link to Innovation Expo flyer) The district will provide setup (tables and technology) for presenters. More information will follow, but please begin spreading the word. For more information, contact melodycasey@johnston.k12.nc.us
- Grades 3-5: It is a good idea this time of year to encourage students to change their JCPS email passwords. The older students become aware that the passwords are based on their birthdates and start hacking one another's accounts. We can be proactive by suggesting them to change them now.
- Flocabulary: Don't forget we have access to this resource. I reviewed over it recently and saw there are many skill specific videos.https://www.flocabulary.com/subjects/
- Don't forget to share and review "Aha's" from the sessions we held at our January early release day on this padlet: https://padlet.com/tjparrish/ah4iu96pmm1h
- About a week ago, the Fire Inspector visited our school. We had a very good inspection. The two areas of improvement that he noted were to be sure not to hang combustible material on your classroom door (on either side) and 1 window in your classroom must be clear in all directions. 1 window in your room cannot have anything in front of, on, or above, etc. If you have questions, please see Mr. Price or Mr. Parrish.
- Staff please remind your students to take it easy on our new foam soap dispensers. We have now broken two dispensers.
- Staff: Please be careful with your key fobs. If you have problems with them or have lost one, please contact Ms. Shepherd. Substitutes should check one out daily or use teacher keys left in mailboxes.
- Please be sure to include any before or after school duties into your substitute lesson plans.
- We were sent a free trial from Book Flix. Feel free to use and give feedback to your SIT Rep. BookFlix is a tool to engage and support all beginning readers. Early readers build fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension using built-in literacy support tools – including read aloud and word-by-word highlighting. BookFlix supports reading comprehension and oral language gains.
