NES Principaw Update #2 (Sept 2022)
Mr. Vince Sette and Mrs. Nicole McQuate
What a Start!!!!
We could not be happier with the start of the school year. Parents have done an amazing job with drop off and pick up. Students have done an amazing job adjusting to new schedules, being kind, being safe, and being responsible. The staff has done an amazing job supporting the students and making the transitions easy for everyone. Together we have really sparkled and started off on the right foot. We cannot thank you enough for the role you play in making Norwayne the special place it is.
As a reminder, the office is currently open from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm at the elementary.
Parents, please return all school forms ASAP. These are essential to ensure we have the most up-to-date information for your child. Thank you for your continued support in filling these forms out for us.
Norwayne Elementary LITERACY Spotlight
Literacy is an integral part of a student's success in school. Please take some time to visit the NES Literacy Page where we highlight different aspects of what the students are working on in school along with book recommendations from staff and students. Be on the lookout for some Literacy Parent Nights in the near future.
Counselor's Corner with Mrs. Monte
I am so excited to implement another year of our school counseling program. This year I will continue to deliver classroom counseling lessons regularly to all grade levels about different social-emotional topics.
Some differences from last year to this year:
All students will visit my classroom for lessons instead of me coming to visit them in their classrooms.
This means that all students will become familiar with my room and hopefully emphasize that all students can utilize myself and my room for several reasons!
Some grade levels will have lessons weekly and others bi-weekly. (Last year all students were bi-weekly.)
Here are some topics that will be covered throughout September by grade level. Please check-out the Counselor’s Corner Site to find additional information about the topics we are covering and the counseling services I offer! The site will be updated throughout the school year.
All Students: Introduction to the Zones of Regulation
Kindergarten: 1. Meet the Counselor (An Introduction to what a school counselor is and how I can help) 2. We Watch. We Listen. We Think. (Paying attention with our eyes, ears, and brain) 3. Why We Pay Attention
1st Grade: Time To Pay Attention. Everyone Gets Distracted.
2nd Grade: 1. How To Get Good At Something
3rd Grade: 1. Changing Your Brain (How learning new things changes our brain) 2. Getting Better with Practice
4th Grade: 1. Setting a Goal
5th Grade: 1. The Right Goal For Me
I am looking forward to working with each of your students to develop socially and emotionally!

Tips for the Year from Mr. Sette
Norwayne Bobcats - Organized, Mindful and Scholarly!
Transportation Department at NES
We made it through the start of school and are heading into a new month! We’ve been getting into the swing of things over here in transportation. Don’t forget that students cannot ride a bus with a friend. We care about the safety of all of our students and do not want to lose anyone.
We are excited about our upcoming bus evacuation drills later this month. Every bus driver will go over evacuations with their students and give them all the information they need to safely exit a bus in case of emergency.
Transportation Trivia Question for September: (Look for the answer somewhere in the newsletter)
- If there is an emergency on the bus should you panic and run off the bus as soon as possible?
If you have any questions, you may reach out to Lori Weinman (Transportation Coordinator) via email (lweinman@norwayne.net) or phone(330-435-1141)
Student Handbook Talking Points
DRESS CODE REMINDER
- Tank tops, muscle shirts, bare midriffs, or sleeveless shirts are NOT permitted. Also, socks are to be worn at ALL times, even with sandals.
Transportation Trivia Answer:
No. Stay calm and follow bus evacuation protocol. Exit the bus safely and orderly.

2022-2023 NES BREAKFAST and LUNCHES
Nutritious breakfast and hot lunches are served at our school. For the 2022-2023 School Year breakfast and lunch are no longer free of charge. Milk is available for purchase for those carrying their own lunches. Lunch and milk prices are established annually by the Norwayne Board of Education and can be found noted below. If your child is going to eat a school lunch regularly, we encourage you to send in money for lunches weekly or monthly. Please put your money in an envelope with the student's name and teacher on it or use the online payment system to add money to their account.
Please note that there is now only a $10.00 charge limit in the lunchroom. Norwayne Local Schools have enrolled in https://www.payforit.net/. This service provides parents with a secure, fast, and convenient way to view and manage student lunch activities. Parents can sign up for low-balance notifications, can view students' balances, and deposit money into their children's meal accounts. Note there is a transaction fee for online student deposits. Parents can also send payments to school with their children. Please make checks payable to Norwayne Elementary School.
Information on prices are noted below:
2022-2023 NES Breakfast and Lunch Prices
Breakfast = $2.35
Lunch = $2.85

If you feel you qualify, please apply.
Navigating Social Media for Parents
Dear Parents,
We recently had Josh Ochs, a national speaker, participate in Norwayne's Professional Development Day. He spoke to our staff about Navigating Social Media and shared some very useful tools to protect our students. We really encourage you to view his presentation and talk to your children about this topic.
