General News!
Happy Monday! First of all, thank you for helping to make a very long week of testing a successful one. Our students were on time, and ready to go. It seemed like most everyone put their best efforts into what they were doing despite the number of technical issues we had throughout the week. Also a big thank you to those of you who sent in snacks, gum, and treats. They were greatly appreciated!... They tell us the scores will be back fairly quickly this year, so we will keep our fingers crossed that everyone will be happy with the results!
In the meantime though, we still have 19 more days of school to get through! As we have mentioned before, classes are still in full gear, grades will continue to be entered, and students should be prepared to fully participate in our daily activities. Please double check with them that they are bringing everything they need with them on a daily basis.
We are down to our last two WOW/ZAP days. If your child is invited to attend, please encourage them to take advantage of these opportunities to get themselves back on track.
If you have not returned your child's picture packet/money to school, please do so ASAP. These are due by Friday at the latest. Also any missing library books, late fees, or fines need to be taken care of. Students were all in the library today, and asked to check their accounts.
Upcoming Dates to Remember:
Book Fair- April 25th -29th...afterschool hours Thursday from 5-6pm
WOW/ZAP - April 28th, May 6th
April 27 -Progress Reports Home
May 6th- 8th grade dance 6pm-8pm
Language Arts- Ms. Waxman
This week we will be able to get further into our novel studies. Both The Outsiders and
Life as We Knew It will offer students exciting adventures, as well as provide some interesting conversations about how people react to various situations life presents.
We will also be taking our root word unit quiz on "More States of Being" on Thursday. We did not get this in last week. There is a STUDYSTACK link provided for independent practice in my Googleclassroom.
This week's WOW/ZAP is focused on student's who are missing assignments other than TweenTribune. (TweenTribune, is a homework assignment, and even students without internet have a number of opportunities throughout their day to get this assignment completed. I am available every morning before school, students simply need to get their agenda books signed.) Any assignments not completed by Thursday will remain a 0 in PowerSchool. I will not be available for next week's WOW.
TweenTribune is due by the end of the day on Saturday this week.
Math- Mrs. Holloway
Hello parents. We are in the final stretch. Please remind your student that school is not over, and grades are still being taken. Progress report grades will be low this time because many students did not take advantage of the last WOW to improve their scores on graphing systems, and using substitution to solve systems. This week’s WOW will be for those students who want to improve those grades. We will be reviewing in class this week. I will have WOW forms available for those students. I will not give invitations. It will be up to the student to take one and have it signed to stay. This will be the ONLY opportunity to redo either or both of those assignments. I will average the 2 scores together. This is open to any student who wants to improve their grade on ONLY these 2 assignments. I have many students who did not complete one of the reviews. They should also take a WOW form to complete that assignment. We have a mastery assessment on systems scheduled for Friday of this week. We will then begin working on 9th grade material, and also going back to specific content that the 9th grade teachers have told me students are not as well prepared for when they enter the high school. Examples are operations with fractions/decimals and solving equations with variables on one side. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. Looking forward to a great week.
