Important Reminders
The first week with all of our Foxes in the house was simply AMAZING! We loved getting to know our PreK and Kindergarten students and see them fall right into place figuring out how everything works; they are already professionals!
A few important reminders:
Arrival:
- Now that the first week of school is under our belts, adults will no longer be allowed into the building during arrival to take their student to class. This is to ensure the safety and security of everyone. We have a lot of adults inside to make sure students get where they need to go safely.
- Please make sure you pull ALL the way forward during arrival. This allows us to unload students at a much faster rate to help keep the drop off line from backing up.
- Breakfast opens at 7:40am
- All others can enter at 7:50am (no adult supervision is provided before this time!)
- The tardy bell is at 8:10am, students will be counted tardy at this time.
Dismissal:
- Back lot walkers- you must use the cross walk for safety, please do not cut through cars.
- If your child needs help buckling, please pull to the very front to not hold up the car line. This is a great skill for students to practice on the weekend so that they can buckle independently.
- Dismissal changes must happen before 2pm to ensure we get the information to your student.
- Please have one primary dismissal procedure. If it changes everyday this can impact the safety of your child and their comfortability at the end of the day knowing what they should do. We will not accept a dismissal change from a child, we have to hear from the adult. If we are uncertain we will keep them with their primary dismissal routine.
- Please ensure you pull ALL the way forward during dismissal. This allows us to keep the car line moving and get students into cars safely. The adults will tell your kids to walk all the way to the front and not stop if you do. Thank you for following our procedures for student safety.
- As always, please ensure you are being respectful and polite during this time. People are learning and no one is intentionally trying to upset anyone. Honking and inappropriate language will never be ok.
- Vapes, cigarettes, and alcohol are not allowed on school property; this includes the parking lot and car loop line.
Thank you for helping us ensure the safety of our students during arrival and dismissal! Please feel free to watch the videos below for any clarification.

Attendance
Changes in Dismissal Routine
If a change has to occur the safest way to ensure the change is communicated is to email the classroom teacher BEFORE school starts and then ALSO call the office BEFORE 2pm. Teachers have different plan times and lunches, and they are not regularly able to read email. Any dismissal change received after 2pm is NOT GUARANTEED. We will do our best, but the end of the day is a very hectic time in a school. We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring the safety of your child.
Food Service Information
These videos will show students what to expect when they join us for school meals. The How To videos can be found on the Food Service web page.

YEARBOOK DESIGNER NEEDED:
Nieman PTA is in search of a Yearbook Chairman. Our current chairman: Sommer Saunders is finishing out her last year as her youngest child is in 6th grade. Sommer would love to find someone to help her this year to take over starting the 23-24 school year. Without a Yearbook Chairman, there will be no yearbook for families and staff, so if you love to design, be creative and want to keep these school memories documented for families and staff this might be the perfect position for you! The Yearbook Chairman must also be a paid Nieman PTA member. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Sommer at PTAmom81@gmail.com

REPEATED IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Nieman Student Expectation Updates
During the 21-22 School Year staff came together to discuss and establish expectations for our school around hoodies, toys, fidgets, and phones. Please see below for Nieman Student Expectations:
Toys- All student toys should be left at home and not brought to school. The only time this would be an exception is if a class earned a reward, then communication would come from the teacher.
Fidgets- Fidgets are great tools used to calm and deescalate students. So long as the fidget is being used in the following ways it will be allowed:
- As a tool and not a toy- for it's expected purpose of calming
- Silently (many fidgets can be disruptive to the learning environment so please ensure your child is capable of using their fidget silently before sending it in).
- It will stay in the classroom and not travel to other locations in the school.
- Must be smaller than a student's hand.
Phones- Phones may be brought on to school property. Once the student enters their classroom the phone should be turned off and kept in their backpack during school hours.
- With permission from the teacher a student may get their phone out to call parents. This is only common towards the end of the day if checking on dismissal or an after school activity.
- Personal phone use may start once students are off school property.
- If a students phone becomes a concern the first contact will come from the classroom teacher. After that contact, if the phone is still a concern, then administration will contact the family and a guardian will need to come up to the school to get the phone.
Hoods- Students are allowed to wear hoods, so long as they don't disrupt their learning or the learning of others.
STUDENT FEES
Student fees have been assessed in Skyward. New for the 2022-23 school year there is an Instructional Resource fee for K-12 students, which replaces the previous Textbook fee. Elementary students will be charged $60; Secondary students will be charged $100. Fees can be paid online through eFunds (a $3 processing fee will be charged) or in the office by cash/check/optional credit card.
Free/Reduced Waiver
The board revised policy JS: Student Fees, Fines, and Charges on May 23rd. Fee waivers are now based on Free/Reduced meal status and not KanCare. Parents are advised to complete their Free/Reduced application in SchoolCafe and their Consent for Disclosure form in Skyward’s Online Verification. It could take 2 weeks or more to process the application, consent form and reduce fees, so please have them completed as soon as possible.
