The City of Houston has graduation ceremony for the City Accreditation Program for Supervisors (CAPS)
Houston, TX—The CAPS graduation ceremony took place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 26, 2018, at the Learning and Development Center located at 4501 Leeland Street in Houston, Texas.
Tony Bolar, Administration Manager, Learning & Development Center delivered the opening remarks and introduction of the keynote speaker, Stephen L. Williams, Director of the Houston Health Department, who shared his overall approaches towards leadership and management styles with the (CAPS) audience. The students delivering the class addresses were Alfredo Ayala, (PWE) and Verdis Wilson, (PWE) were both 2017 CAPS Graduate.

The City of Houston celebrates graduation ceremony of the 1st Emerging Leaders Training Program (E.L.T.P.)
Houston, TX—The graduation ceremony took place at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, February 26, 2018, at the Learning and Development Center located at 4501 Leeland Street in Houston, Texas. Our first-year program graduating class was comprised of 29 City of Houston employees. Mosis Willett, Program Facilitator, Learning & Development Center delivered the opening remarks and introduction of the keynote speaker, Jane E. Cheeks, Director of the Human Resources Department, who encouraged the audience with examples of her leadership style and how perseverance pays off. The nominated class speaker was Tanya Cleveland, whom could not attend the event, (2017 ELTP Graduation) Human Resources Department. The student address was delivered by Interim Class Speaker, Tara DeVaul (2017 ELTP Graduate) Public Works and Engineering Department.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

LD: Please describe your program experience and provide some feedback?
TD: I found the program to be outstanding! Simply put, Emerging Leaders prepares employees with a unique opportunity to develop enhanced leadership skills. The Emerging Leadership Program has inspired me daily and helped bring out leadership qualities and skills that, I didn't even know I had. Early on, I learned how to recognize different personalities and how to quickly adjust my approach to become a more effective communicator.
LD: Please share your overall comments about the program as a whole to share any comments for the next class?
TD: Through participating in the Emerging Leaders Program, I am better equipped to lead teams of diverse individuals, making the most of each person's strengths, communication styles and talents to develop quality solutions to complex problems. The emphasis on enriching interpersonal relationships to foster trust, respect and empowerment was underscored throughout the program. I am very grateful to have had this experience guided by outstanding speakers and instructors.

LD: Please describe your program experience and provide some feedback?
MW: The Emerging Leaders Training Program was successful, based on the graduation rate and feedback from participants. Moving forward, it could use some tweaks.
Overall, I think the program went well and has since received rave reviews.
Upcoming LDC Events
What areas of your job do you find most difficult or want to improve?
Come and experience our Administrative Development Program (ADP) that will equip you with the tools, techniques, and behavioral skills you need to maximize your success! If you are looking to improve your skills in communication, technology, professionalism, and other areas, then this is the program for you.
*Manager/Supervisory staff will not be able to register for this program.
ADP is our multi-track offering consisting of 16 sessions designed to enhance and empower administrative effectiveness and efficiency. Please note ADP is only available to administrative assistants and those who wish to be promoted to administrative assistant.
The program begins with an orientation on Monday, June 18, 2018.
Sessions will be held weekly, every Monday, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Learning and Development Center (LDC), beginning on Monday, June 25, 2018.

Applications are being accepted until Friday, May 18, 2018, by 5:00 p.m.
- Seating is Limited.
All interested participants must complete an application to be considered for enrollment into the program.
Submission of an application does not guarantee acceptance into the program. However, all applications will remain on file for a period of six months. Should you apply for the June 2018 track and not be accepted, you will not need to reapply for the subsequent track beginning in January 2019.

Ask the Expert Panel Series is a citywide initiative organized in collaboration with City leaders. Ask the Expert serves the needs of City employees who seek expert advice on issues impacting work outcomes. The purpose of the four-part series is to:

The Learning and Development Center (LDC) develops and provides programs designed to empower and enhance employee skills and competencies for improved performance and job satisfaction. Our services also extend to external businesses, organizations, and communities.
