The Region 1 #8 CHHS Lady Panthers ended a highly successful February unbeaten and head into March in 2nd place in a competitive 6-5A.
Second only to Grapevine, the Lady Panthers have 5 district games left and will wrap up the regular season at the beginning of Spring Break.
The Lady Panthers surged to second place this week, securing 4 out of a possible 6 points with a win against #2 Grapevine and a tie against Lake Dallas.
Heritage started the week strong, handing the first place Mustangs their first district defeat (regulation time) since 2017 with a 1-0 thriller. Allie Love connected with a well-placed header on a Ryleigh Adams corner kick with 100 seconds left, beating the diving Grapevine keeper in the corner of the goal. The game seemed destined to go to overtime until the last-minute Panther heroics. Amazing game by the Panther defense, highlighted by goalie Liz Flores who made several momentous stops in the victory. The game was a classic Heritage / Grapevine matchup as the two state powers hammered away at each other throughout the entire 80-minute match.
The Panthers finished the week with their 7th consecutive unbeaten regulation match of the month, tying Lake Dallas at home 1-1 in an extremely close match held on a cold February evening. Anna Sugg started off the scoring with a quick goal in the first minute of the game but that would be the last of the scoring for the Panthers on the evening. The visiting Lady Falcons, equalized just before halftime and the teams played a scoreless 2nd half before heading to a shootout to determine who would earn the extra point. Lake Dallas entered the game in fourth place and would eventually win the point in the 7th round of the shootout with a 4-3 victory in penalties. Lady Panthers shooters included Ryleigh Adams, Olivia Belcher (G), Lauren Whitcraft (G), Anna Sugg (G), Maggie Pollack, Bonnie Miller, and Liz Flores CHHS remain in 2nd place headed into the final 5 district games and Lake Dallas remains in fourth place. (Note: the top 4 teams advance to post season).
CHHS finished February 6-0-1 and will open March on the road against 5th place Richland (4-4-1 district, 13 pts), Tuesday at 7:15 (JV 5:30). The Lady Panthers return home on Friday the 4th for Senior Night against last place Denton (0-9 district 0 pts).
JV:
The JV Lady Panthers competed with all their hearts this past week through freezing temperatures! They played the Grapevine Mustangs and Lake Dallas Falcons. Both competitors made for nail biting matches! Many good plays, passes, defensive moves and saves were had by our Lady Panthers! Goals made by #3, Sammy Wurst and # 17, Alexa Munguia with a free kick! Looking forward to the rest of the season!Panther Soccer
On the very cold last Friday night, the Panthers brought the heat and took on Lake Dallas Falcons to a 2-1 victory! Both goals were scored by Cade Ryan with assists by Daniel Osorio and Rami Helou. Man of the Match went to Daniel Osorio.
The Panthers will be back in action on Tuesday March 1st against Richland at Mustang-Panther Stadium at 7:30pm. Weather is looking great so come on out and cheer on your Panthers!
