Social and Emotional Learning is a Partnership
We have done quite a bit in regards to social and emotional engagements for students. We have begun our assemblies again, we have morning or afternoon meetings where children talk about the day and its events, we have had 1 on 1, small group and full group discussions about events within the classroom, and our counselors have been working with a number of children to help them re-acclimate to a school setting.
BUT... parents, students and the school are in this together. Schooling is, at minimum, a triangular partnership where we ALL work together to learn and grow. Children need us, as adults, to guide them in their growth, now even more than ever. I ask all families to please talk to your children about the difference between being friends and being friendly, about speaking your mind but in a respectful way, about doing what is right even when it is difficult, about seeking help and guidance when it is needed. If we all work together in respectful and welcoming dialogue we can only help all of the student at AIS West to learn and grow in a positive direction.
Here is an article that explains how important the social and emotional well-being is for children and how you, as parents, can help in guiding your children through their own challenges as they learn and grow as their own person. Please, let's guide our children together. (LINK)
