Christmas Parade Info.

Can you believe it's already time to be thinking about Christmas ?! It feels like it was just 72 degrees outside .... !! (Oh, wait... it was....Crazy Va weather!)

We have SIGN UP sheets located at the Information Station.

Dancers: Must be 8/9* years old and have (*Recommended) 2* years of Jazz or Ballet experience (*Recommended). If you have questions about if your child is eligible, just give us a call/email.

There will only be 3-4 practices for parade. These are not technique learning classes, these are Choreography learning classes. It will most likely be chilly/cold outside and they will be in a costume/tights. Dancers will need to rent a Parade costume from the studio ($35) and must purchase correct tights, shoes and any accessories needed.

Why 8/9 years old?! Safety. Period. There are thousands of people out at the parade. Dancers dance down the length of CH Boulevard.... There is sometimes a pretty decent waiting time as well before our unit pulls out, and once we start they must finish..... and there is no potty break mid parade...

Why Jazz/Ballet ? Because a lot of the choreography has jazz technique. This is a recommended requirement but if your child has taken numerous years of ballet, hip hop, modern etc or has skipped a year or so in jazz, but has kept up in technique...they will probably be fine. Our teachers/staff will be honest about if the Christmas parade choreography is a good fit for you. We want everyone to look and feel their best !! We also have a ton of students and dance family that are Float Riders. It should be a fun, exciting night for ALL!

Float Riders should have a GJDC logo branded sweatshirt/shirt and white accessories! Hats, mittens, earmuffs, etc should be a bright white color to make them stand out since the parade is at night!! These can usually be found at Walmart, Target, Amazon etc.

More information will be available once we receive our packets from the City.

Soles 4 Souls Shoe Drive

Want to do something that helps people and clean out your closets at the same time!!!!?

Did you know that 767 million people around the world live on less than $1.90 per day? And that 385 million are children? For those living in extreme poverty, many don’t have access to a sustainable income or basic necessities—something as simple as a good pair of shoes.

What if the shoes you no longer want could create jobs for people in need? They can! Your shoes can help people in developing nations start and sustain their own small businesses to step out of poverty.

We’re excited to announce that we have joined forces with the non-profit organization Soles4Souls again to collect shoes to help Wear Out Poverty!

Since 2006, Soles4Souls has distributed more than 35 million pairs of shoes in 127 countries and are a four-star charity as rated by Charity Navigator. Learn more at soles4souls.org. Soles4Souls utilizes new and gently used shoes as a resource to help entrepreneurs in developing nations with an opportunity to start and sustain small businesses (a micro-enterprise) of their own. Our work will also help Soles4Souls’ ability to distribute brand new shoes to people in need and in times of disaster.

Give your shoes a second life and donate to our shoe drive today. Please bring your new or gently used shoes of any kind to GJDC!! Look for the BLUE bin in the lobby! Drop off, feel good!

Don’t have shoes to donate but want to get involved? Contact Regional Director, Stephanie Hathaway at Stephanieh@soles4souls.org to schedule a trip to volunteer in the Regional Donation Center warehouse or learn of other ways to help.
