I think he will talk about his journey through life.
I think that "He will not see me stopping here to watch his woods fill with snow" means that his friend is fading from existence. Basically, his friend is dying.
The words darkest and frozen lake make me feel like man is trying to keep moving on even in the hardest, coldest times.
"I have promises to keep" and "miles to go before I sleep" make me feel like the author is speaking in a determined tone.
In this poem, I do not notice any changes in the tone.
The title is telling us to go through life even if the snow starts to drift inside of the forest and covers you in an icy sheet.
The theme of this poem is that the woods are like life and the snow happens when someone you know and/or love passes away.
