Second Grade News
Week of March 26-29
Language Arts/Reading
- We read folktales this week that had specific lessons or themes.
- We learned how to look at a characters actions and their dialogue to figure out what the theme of the story is.
- We practiced finding themes of passages by Easter egg hunting and cracking open the egg to find a passage and identify the theme.
- We learned different abbreviations for words and how to find the meaning of words based on the root.
Math
- This week in math we focused on line plots. We learned how to use the information we find to organize everything onto a line plot.
- We also asked questions and made statements about our line plots.
- As a special treat, we put on our scientist hats and examined different types of "dinosaur eggs" that were hidden around the room. We measured the eggs and then created a line plot that organized how big the eggs were around. This made it easy to see the average size of the eggs and how many were larger than 5 inches around.
Social Studies
- This week we learned that there are three different branches of the government that all work together to help our country run smoothly. We learned about the executive, legislative, and judicial branches and what each branch does.
