The View From Saturday
You Can't Look For Things Where You Know They Aren't
People can be very diverse and unique.
You should not look for things where you know they aren’t, this is shown by the diversity of the characters in this book. The characters in The View From Saturday are very unique in their own ways. Though Noah is a good student, he doesn’t always seem to fit in. He doesn’t understand the literal meaning of figurative language. Nadia loves baby turtles, and she helps to rescue them. She is also the only girl in The Souls, and is very pretty according to Ethan. She is very fond of her dog, who is a genius and plays Annie’s Sandy in a school play. Ethan started out as quiet, but ends up unrecognizable when he becomes part of The Souls. At the play rehearsal for Annie’s Sandy, Ethan called out from the crowd. The play director, who knew Ethan, at first didn’t recognize him, since Ethan used to be very quiet. In addition, he shares Nadia’s love for baby turtles. He loves halos, especially those belonging to Nadia Diamondstein. Julian has the most diversity in his appearance and background. He is famous for wearing knee-socks with shorts, and is an oddball at school. He is often bullied by other students because of his very unique personality. Julian is also the main reason that The Souls are The Souls. He is the one who brought them all together in the first place by inviting them to a tea party.
People are always connected in some way, despite any differences there might seem to be.
Now, even though people can be very diverse, people are almost always connected in some way; even The Souls, who have a lot of diversity. Nadia’s grandfather is now married to Ethan’s grandmother, and Noah was the best man at their wedding. Ethan and Julian ride the same bus, and sit in the same seat. Ethan helped Julian when people bullied him, and was there to support him. Ethan also met Nadia when they were in Florida helping the baby turtles as they hatched. Julian’s dog is the daughter of Nadia’s dog Ginger. The connection between Noah and Julian is distant, but it proves that everyone is still connected in some way. Julian is the one who brought them all together for the first time, as he invited them all to tea at his family’s bed and breakfast, Sillington House.
You cannot look for things where you know they aren't.
You cannot look for things where you know they aren’t. That means that you cannot expect people to be something that they are not. You can not look for one person’s characteristics to be the same in another person. Everyone is different, but every person, no matter how different they might be, always has some connection to others, one way or another.
