PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Congratulations 8th-Grade Graduates Class of 2024!
Congratulations to all of our 8th graders.
Our 8th-grade celebration at MHS is one of my favorite events of the year. I feel bad we can’t have this joyful event. I have enjoyed watching you all grow into the young adults you have become. Please go to Monticello High School this fall and show the same grit and determination you demonstrated in middle school. It is a new beginning, and a chance to reset your priorities, explore new interests and build lasting friendships. We are proud of you and all you have accomplished at Monticello Middle School. Mr. Carr… I present to you the Monticello High School Class of 2024!
-Mr. Scherber, Principal
To the class of 2024 -
Where did those 3 years go? It has been our pleasure having you at MMS for the past 3 years and are excited for what your next chapter brings. You have grown tremendously from those early days in the 6th grade and, we believe you are ready for the next step. Be sure to identify your talents, strengths, and interests in an effort to capitalize on them and go after your goals! You are talented, you are ready, and you are strong. Go to Monticello High School and make it happen! Congratulations!
-Mr. Coalwell
Class of 2024 ~
Congratulations on a unique and amazing middle school experience. It has been wonderful to watch your transition from eager 6th graders to mature and creative 8th-grade students prepared for high school. I hope you always remember to be true to yourself and your values, while you support and encourage your entire class throughout high school. You have learned and grown in so many ways through this spring, many of which you may not be aware of yet. Use what you’ve learned to be great at MHS. Use your skills and talents and make the next four years amazing. Good luck and congratulations!

Annual Update - Complete by June 5, 2020
The Monticello School District Annual Update for All Families for the 2020-2021 School Year will be active May 5, 2020, through June 5, 2020. Completing the annual update in a timely manner assures that Monticello has the most current and updated information for the education, health, and safety of your child while attending school.
The annual update process will be open May 5th, 2020 for all families to update student information, household information, and demographic updates/changes using your parent portal account. The annual update process replaces the paperwork you may have completed in the past.
The parent portal account can be accessed by logging into our Infinite Campus Parent Portal Account and choosing "More", then choose "Online Registration". The annual update must be completed by the parent/guardian of the primary household.
If you do not currently have a Parent Portal account please contact parentportal@monticello.k12.mn.us to obtain information to create a new account.
If you have forgotten your username or password for your portal account please login to the Infinite Campus Parent Portal Account link above and choose Campus Parent, Forgot Password.
This summer MMS will offer two options/resources for students
From June 22 - July 24 there will be resources within Schoology for any MS student to dig into and explore. All content areas will have folders containing optional, exploratory activities, games, lessons, tours, and other content for students to participate in. Please encourage your child to mark their calendar and use these resources in the middle of summer for enrichment or pleasure.
Targeted Services will be hosting a Summer Adventure Program for students entering 7th or 8th grade next fall. Our focus will be helping students learn about the world around them and gain new experiences through a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) lens. Content will be delivered virtually (and at times via Hoglund’s Transportation) and the students will be encouraged to complete both digital and hands-on activities at home.
If you feel that your student was able to successfully manage the digital learning routine this spring and is looking for a way to stay engaged through the summer, this is it! We ask that students who join are able commit to all 3 weeks of the program.
Dates:
June 22nd - 25th
July 13th-16th
August 3rd-6th
Logistics:
Students may complete individual work at any point during the day
Students/parents need to commit to participating and being ready for some fun
Material will be delivered virtually and via school transportation
To sign up, please click this link. Registrations are due June 12th. If you have questions or would like more information, please email any of the following teachers:

School Material Drop-off
School material drop-off will be June 4, 5, & 8.
There will be a cart under the main entrance canopy to drop items from 7 am - 2 pm.
Summer Chromebook Storage:
There will be periods of time this summer where students' Chromebooks will be non-operational and times when they do work. The Summer Programs that we will offer are the times when the Chromebooks will work for students. During the rest of the summer, we ask you to follow the Best Practices for Shutting down your child's Chromebook as it will not work but needs to remain charged. Here is a link to those steps:

NOTES FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE
7th-grade Immunizations
I hope you and your family are staying healthy during these ever-changing times. I wanted to give another reminder to parents of upcoming 7th-graders: Per MN Immunization Law, the following 2 vaccinations are required for entry into 7th grade*: an adult dose of TdaP (Tetanus, Diptheria & Pertussis) after age 11 & a meningococcal vaccine (to protect against meningitis). As a parent, you also have the right to decline these vaccines for your child but a conscientious objection (or non-medical objection) form must be signed & notarized. If you have a 7th-grader this fall, you will also be receiving an immunization letter in the mail in the future, & on the backside of this letter, it will show if your child has had these required vaccines.
Many local clinics are now starting to schedule well-child checks. If your child would also like to participate in an MS sport, your child will also need a 7th-grade sports physical. Please call your child's local clinic to begin scheduling these well-child checks or sports physicals. If you have any questions regarding your child's immunizations, please feel free to call or email me. Immunizations & sports physicals can also be faxed to the MS throughout the summer at (763) 272-2109. I will be checking both my voicemail & email intermittently throughout the summer. I hope you are able to spend time outdoors with your children while maintaining proper social distancing!
Have a healthy & safe summer!
