OLVCS Updates
September 23, 2022
Dear OLV Parents and Friends,
Thank you for accommodating our teacher in-service day last Friday, and thanks in advance for your cooperation with our virtual learning day on Monday. If you’re looking for something to do on Monday, why not get a bite at the Field Burger & Tap who is kindly donating a portion of Monday’s proceeds to OLVCS (details below).
During Mass today, sponsored by our 4th graders, the school was presented with an endowment from family of the late Jo Ann Taricani. Due to her great passion for music, the Jo Ann Taricani Memorial Endowment has been established for Music Education at OLV. Annual contributions to this endowment will be divided between the school and parish music programs. May the Lord’s face shine upon Jo Ann and give her eternal peace. We are truly grateful to her loved ones for thinking of OLV to be blessed by this endowment.
Our Lady of Victory Catholic School would also like to thank the Independent Catholic Foundation for a generous grant of $667 which will be used to fund religious formation for our faculty, as well as, provide the Hallow App to our school community. An email regarding download and usage of the app will be coming to you within the next few days.
There is a lot of information about the Walk-A-Thon below, as well as, information about an Out of Uniform Day on Wednesday ($1 donation per student) and other events going on in the school, the parish, and at St. Joe’s so please check out the whole newsletter for more details.
Today is the feast of St. Pius of Pietrelcina, known popularly as Padre Pio. If you’ve never heard about him, I think you would be surprised at this man’s amazing life. Father George spoke about him during his homily, but it seems like a lot of kids already knew about him--very impressive. For a brief overview, check out this video from Fr. Mike Schmitz: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xq_y1D72-Sk.
I hope that everyone has a nice weekend, and we will see you on Tuesday!
God bless,
Jim Hoy

OLVCS Athletics Updates
Crusaders Travel to Central and Win Both Volleyball Matches
On Friday, September 16th, our girls volleyball team traveled to Martinsburg to take on the girls volleyball team from Central Middle School. Our 8th Grade played first. After a slow start, they came on strong, winning the match after 3 sets: 16-25, 26-24, and 15-6.
“The girls definitely got their first game jitters out on Wednesday and had so much more confidence in game two on Thursday,” said Coach Kayla Tillery.
“Our girls showed an amazing amount of growth from the first to the second game,” said Coach MaryAnn Stolberg. “It was amazing to watch them come together as a team and learn how to work together.”
While all the girls contributed to the win, the run of nine solid serves by 8th grader Sarah Couriet with great play by the others on the court clinched the 3rd set win.
Due to time constraints, the 7th grade game consisted of just one set. Our team came out strong, winning the set 25-20. Top servers included Claire Peters, Olivia Koshko, and Vale Kauffman.
“The players have been having a great time cheering one another on and supporting their friends from the sidelines,” said Coach Stolberg. “This is teamwork at its finest.”
The OLVCS Volleyball Team travels to Southern Huntington next week for a rematch with the Rockets on Monday. They will also be playing in a middle school team tournament on October 1st.
