DiSC Training for our Staff during Pre-Planning
Our preschool staff recently took part in the DiSC assessment and training to discover more about ourselves and our co-workers. The DiSC profile, published by Wiley, is a non-judgmental tool used for discussion of people's behavioral differences. Dr. Phil Schroeder, a retired United Methodist minister, delivered a fun and informative morning of training! Through our training we not only learned how we react to certain personality types but also how we can increase our effectiveness with styles that are different from our own. In the pictures below you will see us doing a great teamwork activity at the conclusion of our training!
We are all excited about how this training will improve the quality of our preschool team and build more effective workplace relationships. Also, in addition to communicating with each other, we know how crucial it is to communicate effectively with our students and parents. With our new understanding of ourselves and others through the lens of DiSC, we know this will help us build relationships and better communicate with everyone!
Just for your information, below is a very brief synopsis of the DiSC personality/behavioral traits:
D– type individuals are outgoing and task-oriented. They tend to be Dominant and Decisive. They usually focus on results and the bottom-line.
I– type individuals are outgoing and people-oriented. They tend to be Inspiring and Influencing. They usually focus on talking and having fun.
S– type individuals are reserved and people-oriented. They tend to be Supportive and Steady. They usually focus on peace and harmony.
C– type individuals are reserved and task-oriented. They tend to be Cautious and Conscientious. They usually focus on facts and rules.
Memories with Mom/Book Fair Week
The proceeds that we receive from the book fair also help us purchase new books and resources for our preschool classrooms! Thank you so much for supporting our book fair!
The Memories with Mom dates are Sept. 17 and 18. Please be sure to check with your child's teacher to know which day to come for your child's class. We can't wait to host all of our moms in just a few weeks! It is such a special day!
CARPOOL REMINDERS
Carpool has been going very smoothly so far this year both at arrival and dismissal time!
At morning drop off, the teachers come to you and get your child out of the car for you.
At afternoon pick up, we load 4 cars at a time, and the teachers will bring your children to you to load and buckle. For the safety of your child and those around you, please do not use your cell phone while you are in the carpool line. Please pass this information on to babysitters, grandparents, and others that may be picking up your children this year. Thank you so much for your cooperation and help with this!
Lastly, ALWAYS TURN RIGHT when exiting the carpool line. This is for safety and also it keeps our line moving so we are not backing up the carpool line and waiting on traffic.
Our first priority at carpool is safety, and we really appreciate your help!
Preschool Snack Time!
Snack time is a fun and important part of everyday at Weekday Preschool. Parents bring in snacks on a rotation basis determined by your child's teacher. Your teacher will alert you to any specific allergies in the class that you may need to keep in mind. NEVER SEND PEANUT BUTTER OR OTHER NUT PRODUCTS! We do not allow peanut butter or nut products of any kind in the building.
Ways to incorporate Healthy Snacks in School….
Healthy snacks help kids stay calmer, alert, and focused in school in addition to keeping their tummies satisfied and full. High sugar and low protein snacks do the opposite. To maximize your kids learning time and assist teachers in keeping kids focused – we can feed our children healthy, high protein, whole grain snacks.
Choose food – not food products. Avoid high fructose corn syrup and choose foods with the least amount of ingredients (less processed).
Grains: Whole grain crackers, popcorn, Honey wheat pretzels, Crisp flat breads (Wasa crackers), homemade whole wheat muffins or banana bread
Fruits: Apples, Bananas, Blueberries, Clementines, Grapes (halved), Kiwi, Orange wedges, Strawberries, Raspberries, Watermelon (cubed), Orange wedges, Dried fruit (raisins, pears, apples, etc.)
Vegetables: Baby carrots, Cucumber slices
Things to avoid for snacks: Donuts, Cookies, Fruit gushers/gummies, High sugar yogurts
