For Your Nightstand...

Here is a sampling of our new nonfiction books:

New Resource - Oxford English Dictionary

We now have a subscription to the Oxford English Dictionary. (The definitive record of the English language.)

You might think that the OED is strictly for English teachers and students, but that's not the case. In addition to looking up a word and viewing its full entry, you can search by timelines, categories, and you can scan the historical thesaurus. You can also use the advanced search feature to filter by dates, languages, and regions. It's pretty awesome.

While on campus, you can access with no special login, but at home, there is a login and password. It's located in the "hidden" document, along with all of our database passwords. Email me if you have questions.

Here is the link to the main page. Enjoy exploring!

Macbook Air Cart

Over the summer, one of our PC Laptop carts will be traded out for a Macbook Air Laptop cart. This enables us to collaborate on a variety of new projects. Having a class set of laptops with iMovie and GarageBand, among other software programs, gives us new options. GarageBand is not only used to create music, but it's also used for podcasts. Students can create podcasts for a wide range of projects like storytelling, radio shows, speeches, interviews, and recording field trips. Students can record on their own phone, tablet, or computer while at home and import that into Garageband at school to edit and create a podcast.

iMovie is exactly what it sounds like - movie making software. Many of our students have been using it for years to create projects. But others haven't had access to it, so this will be nice for all of our students to have more access to the program.

Think about these new resources over the summer and let's brainstorm something new or update an existing project next year!
