April 2019 Quarter 4 Newsletter
Note from Mr. Barnes
Quarter 4 is upon us and we have a lot to accomplish as we wind down the school year. PARCC Assessments for students in 3rd - 5th grades will take place between April 24th and May 17th. Please do your best to have students here everyday and on time with plenty of rest so that they can perform at their peak.
I am so very proud of the growth our students have made. It is truly a honor to serve Monocacy Elementary School as the principal. I know that we have the best students and the greatest teachers. We will continue to push ourselves for continued growth so that every child will be successful in school and outside of school. Thank you for your partnership with us. It takes a TEAM to support each student.
Please join us on May 30th from 6:00 - 7:30pm for our Spring Title I Event. Families will attend the grade level their child will be attending during the 2019-2020 school year in order to gain insights into the curriculum, learn expectations and procedures, and receive resources and activities for children to complete over the summer. This was a very successful event the last two school years, and based on the feedback we are excited to bring it back for the third year.
As spring weather approaches and summer fever sets in, please continue to reinforce our expectations for responsible, respectful, and relentless behaviors. I know that we will have a productive, safe, and successful 4th quarter.
Sincerely,
Troy Barnes,
Principal

PBIS
The PBIS Team at Monocacy Elementary recently provided teachers with a lesson on conflict resolution. During the lesson students were taught ways to identify how big their problem is, and then how to handle problems on their own or when to go to an adult for help. Conflict resolution lessons to teach our students peaceful ways to solve problems will continue to be a focus.
Through the school counseling department, our students recently received a lesson on mental, emotional and physical health and well being. Before and after PARCC testing our students will be exploring different careers through the Paws In Jobland career exploration program during media time with Ms. DeFrance and Mrs. Nauman.
On May 23, 2019 we will hold our annual Career Day! The times will be 9:30-11:00 am and 2:00-3:30 pm. If you would like to present, or know someone who would be a great presenter, please contact Ms. DeFrance at 240-236-1363 or christina.defrance@fcps.org.
