Point of View
First Person, Third Person, Omniscient, Third Person Limited
What is Point of View?
Point of View is the perspective from which the story is told. Most stories are told from Third Person or First person.
First and Third Person.
First person- The narrator is in the story, and the reader can tell what her actions, thoughts, and feelings are.
Third Person- Narrator is telling a story from the "outside" not in the story.
Point of View tells the contrast of what the characters and readers know. They help lay down the basics for suspense, humor, or surprise.
Omniscient and Third Person Limited
Omniscient- Narrator knows everything about all characters (all knowing)
Third Person Limited- The narrator knows everything about only one character. Focus closely on one character (main character)
