What We're Learning

Reading and Writing

We are continuing with our poetry unit, mostly focusing this week on concrete poems. We are reviewing grammar, punctuation, and spelling rules we have learned this year. We are also starting some end-of-the-year reading testing this week.


This week, we will spend our math time reviewing telling time. Second graders should end the school year being able to tell time to five-minute increments, but my hope is that we'll be able to tell it to the minute! We are also reviewing other skills learned this year.


This week, we are reviewing states of matter. We will discuss what causes objects to change states and we will also play around with mixtures of different states of matter.

In Other News...

  • Thank you to those families who sent in Box Tops this past week! Moreau Heights collects Box Tops, Labels for Education, My Coke Rewards, and more. We appreciate your help!
  • I sent home one last batch of Scholastic Book catalogues last Monday. This is a great time to stock up on some new books for Summer reading! In order to get books back by the end of the year, I need orders in by this Friday, May 6.
  • Our Spirit and Awards assembly for the month of May will be Tuesday, May 17. We will award our usual awards (character trait, Noble Knight, Charger), but also recognize other student achievements. I will share more details when I have more information.
