Distance Learning Routines
Creating a daily routine for kids during distance learning days will be important. Routines help lower stress by creating a predictable day. Routines help budget time for what is important.
Though students are at school from 7:55-3:15 each day, there are many breaks included. Distance learning should not be all day. During a child's school day there are lunch breaks, physical activity, creative time, time to transition from one activity to another. It will be important to put those breaks into your schedule. Take it easy the first week of distance learning. You may need to make adjustments to your routine. Hopefully, after week one, your family will be able to establish more consistency.
Below are some examples of daily schedules for elementary students and MS/HS students. These are just ideas. Sit down as together and create one that works for your family.

Communication
During distance learning days there will be daily announcements posted on the website for students and families to view. Your teacher(s) will be communicating with you regularly through email or one of the apps listed below. Because were are unable to check in with students daily face to face, regular communication is important.
We want to hear from you! Teachers expect both parents and students will have questions! Students have questions every day in class, it will be much the same. If you or your child is having difficulty with an assignment, activity, technical issue, contact your child's teacher. Your questions and feedback will be essential for our school to improve our distance learning instruction. We all will grow and learn together.
Continue to watch for communication through email, text, website, Facebook and Twitter.
SeeSaw: Grades 4K-4th grade
Schoology: 5-12th grade
Gmail: 3-12th grade
Get the Apps!
SEESAW- This app is used with our 4K-4th grade students. It is great for large groups and individual messaging with families. Students and families can view teacher-provided resources, submit assignments and received feedback on assignments. Specialty teachers such as music, art, PE and library are connected with the app.
SCHOOLOGY: This app is used in grades 5-12th. It is similar to SeeSaw, but the "Big Kid" version. Students can view messages from teachers and access learning resources. Many assignments can be submitted in Schoology. Teachers leave feedback for students on their work submitted.
Get a parent account. This is highly recommended! Parents can view the same information as their children. Additionally, parents can see teacher comments, and the date and time an assignment was submitted (or wasn't). If you do not have this set up yet, please contact Brenda James via email (bjames@barneveld.k12.wi.us).
GMAIL: Students in grades 3 through 12 have a district Gmail account. Daily communication from teachers come to kids in grades 6-12. It is important for students to check this daily. Gmail is a two-way communication tool. When questions arise, and they will, students can contact their teachers directly through Gmail.
POWERSCHOOL: Powerschool is a grading app. Students and parents can find information about assignments and grades. Questions regarding grades posted on PowerSchool should be directed to the student's teacher.
Many of you are aware and regularly use these apps. These apps are highly recommended to ease regular distance learning communication. Contact Brenda James via email (bjames@barneveld.k12.wi.us) for help.

Search for a New District Administrator
The Barneveld School Board is pleased to announce we had great interest in the District Administrator position. This shows how well respected our district reputation is across the state. The board had hoped to have a community forum for everyone to meet the finalists, unfortunately with the COVID-19 pandemic and the stay at home order we are unable to do so.
Considering the current community restrictions, the school board would like to introduce you to the candidates for the District Administrators position through video! Starting Tuesday night March 31st, we will have recorded "video interviews" with the finalist available for you to view on the website. The video will consist of the candidate introducing themselves and answering a set of questions. There will also be an option for you to rate and comment on the finalist if you chose to do so. Please feel free to reach out to any of the current board members or administrators if you have questions.
We appreciate your input and assistance in helping us make the best decision for our school district. We are looking forward to your input.
