HRMS NEWS
June 9, 2021
Dear HRMS Families,
This newsletter has information on Promotion, Band/Choir, Summer Reading Suggestions, Summer Opportunities, End Of Year Activities, and a Schedule Update.
Promotion
We are excited to celebrate our 8th Graders on Tuesday, June 15 at Hood River Valley High School. The Ceremony will begin at 6:00 PM on the athletic field. We recently learned about a few special requirements for the Promotion Ceremony due to the location on an artificial turf field.
Special care will be taken to preserve the new turf field.
No food or drink or spike heeled shoes.
We are asking families to limit attendance to 5 guests. We will not be issuing tickets and attendance will be on the honor system. I am looking forward to this opportunity to celebrate our students as they transition to HRVHS!
Band/Choir
We need all of our current 6th and 7th Grade Families to please fill out this survey about music choices for next year. This critical information will be used to schedule your students next year!
Summer Reading for Middle-School Students
The first and most important academic skill is reading! Please encourage your middle schoolers to continue reading this summer. The School Library Journal has these online suggestions for summer reading; click for brief reviews and cover images:

We are almost at the end of the year and have a variety of community-building activities for our students to participate in before leaving us for the summer. One of the activities will be a Color Run on Monday. This HRMS tradition has historically been during our Spring Tea event. Students will have the option to participate in a short run in which they will be doused with some color powder. White or black 100% cotton clothes work the best. Students who do not wish to participate will have the opportunity to do some other fun outdoor activities. If you have any questions about the color powder please see this FAQ page.
Another activity on Monday will be a Yearbook signing. All students will receive a yearbook when they turn in their iPad, charging cube and cable, along with any other tech equipment or hotspots. Please remind your student to bring all of these items to school on Monday. Students will be issued their iPad and tech supplies again at the start of next school year. Our tech department will inspect all devices and make sure they are in good working order over the summer so that they will be good to go for student use in the Fall.
On Tuesday, the final day of the school year, our teachers have put together engaging community-building activities for your student at the following locations:
6th grade - Scavenger Hunt Downtown
7th Grade - Field Day at the Marina
8th Grade - Promotion Practice/Field Day at Jackson Park
Please contact us or your student’s teacher if you have any questions about the day’s events.
21-22 Full-Day Schedule
I am excited to announce that we are planning to start the school year with a full-day schedule. We are awaiting news on any health protocols for the 21-22 school year. We will communicate this information when we are notified of changes by the State of Oregon. Additional specific information on start and end times for the school day will be announced at a later date.
