Tiger's Tale
December 04, 2020
Message From The Principal
I hope all of our families had a chance to come together (in small groups) to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday last week! We continue to miss our students and really hope everyone is staying healthy and safe!
We are beginning the second round of STAR testing next week. Our 6th and 7th grade students will begin. The following week will be 8th grade. We complete the rotation by testing any of our absent students. Please have your child give their best effort!
Let’s take a look at our Outstanding Tigers of the Week!!
Student(s)
Mary Engfer nominated Vontae Anderson.
"Vontae is always the first student to log on to our 7/8 ELA block. I love our chats while we wait for the other students to log on. He is very respectful, and I love to hear his stories. He's a wonderful student who takes his time to complete an activity so that it is done perfectly. I really enjoy having Vontae in my class. He's doing an amazing job, and I'm very proud of him. Keep up the great work, Vontae!"
Mrs. Dutdut nominated Ryleigh Schmacht.
"Ryleigh went above and beyond by taking the lead as teacher when I was having technology issues. She communicated with me while I was unable to join the class and worked through our daily agenda with fellow students. I am very proud of her for her positive attitude and leadership role she took on. Ryleigh has a passion for teaching, and judging by how the lesson went and student engagement, I am confident she will be an amazing teacher one day. Ryleigh, thank you for making this teacher smile and so very proud to be your teacher."
Staff Member
Madison Peters nominated Tatiana Morales (spanish teacher).
"She makes class fun! Mrs. Morales, my Spanish teacher, is truly amazing. She always makes class fun. She even makes our assignments super fun. Every week she asks us if she is giving us to less, to much or just the right amount of work. She also asks if we liked or disliked the assignments so she can know how to make assignments better. She uses bitmojis too which are super fun and funny. I 100% think Mrs. Morales earns an award."

Why do we take notes in class if we never go back to look at them? Click on the link to watch a very quick video about a study that showed why we need to repeatedly revisit our notes to help retain the information better. You can have the best looking notes in the class, but you need to be able to go back and look at them everyday to help your brain remember the content.
Student Services
ATTENTION 8th Graders and Parents: OHS counselors will be in PE classes Monday, 12/7 and Tuesday, 12/8 to meet with students individually to verify their 9th grade course selection. If you did not complete this in Tyler, please review the information and have your selections ready for the OHS counselor to input (you cannot input them anymore since the window has closed). Here are important resources for you if you are still planning out your classes.
The Course Catalog - lists all available classes, and includes course descriptions and prerequisites.
Oswego High School Course Selection Showcase - displays each OHS Department, courses available in the department and general information.
Complete Course Selection Instructions - gives instructions for making course selections in Tyler. Also has links to applications for any classes requiring them. Includes a 4-year Plan worksheet and OHS graduation requirements
ATTENTION 6th graders! For the next two Fridays before break (12/11 and 12/18), the counselors will run a "fun lunch" group for 6th graders during each lunch period! This will be a fun, relaxed way to interact with other 6th graders in your lunch period and play some games before we head into winter break. The only rules are that you need to be willing to have your camera on, talk on your mic, and treat everyone with respect. Pretty simple. :)
Each counselor will have their own group each lunch period based on your last name, which is how the counselors divide their caseload. Last names A-L go with Ms. Shaw, and last names M-Z go with Mrs. Gilbert. All 6th graders will receive a Google Classroom invite the week of December 7 for their appropriate lunchtime group and counselor, so make sure you check your email, students!! Can't wait to see all of you.

Get to Know ... Mike Bajusz
Many years ago, I graduated from the University if Iowa. Iowa City is the greatest place in the country to go to college. My degree was in Accounting. After college, I moved to Chicago and worked as a commodities trader at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange for more than 11 years. The urge to become a school teacher became stronger as I grew older. I took classes to earn a master's degree in teaching from National-Louis University. My wife and I started a family in 2004. I graduated from NLU in 2005, and we moved to the suburbs. I am in my fifteenth year of teaching math at Thompson Junior High School. I love math, and I love teaching.
Get to Know ... Jean Trahant
Hello, Tigers! My name is Jean Trahant and for over eighteen years at Thompson, I have taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade special education classes, reading intervention classes, and English Language Arts. My second master’s degree in reading is from Benedictine University, Lisle, Ill. Due to my own experiences as a student that attended eight schools in twelve years, I wanted to become a teacher that was student focused. Thompson is a great place to put all of my education and experience to work as I interact with students on a daily basis. My husband and I will celebrate our twenty-seventh anniversary in December. Did I mention I adore animals? My dog, Max, is my constant companion when I am not at school.
I am happy and proud to be a Thompson Tiger.
Oswego Public Library Cards
Getting access to these resources is EASY! Just fill out the attached Google Form. After you complete it, Ms. Buan will contact you with access instructions and the library card number. IT’S THAT EASY! :) The library card number will be active as soon as you receive it, and will expire on June 1, 2021. Please be sure to complete the form for every child in your household who attends Thompson, so that we may give each child her/his own library card number. Information on obtaining cards for elementary and high school students will come from the elementary and high school librarians. In addition to immediate access to the digital library, students will also have the option to visit either campus of the library to get “physical” access to books, movies, video games, etc. Information on how to access these resources will be sent to you along with the library card number.
How to Check Out a Book from the LRC
