Manning Morsels
Family Edition for the Week of October 12th 2020
Important from the Office
- Any changes to a student's dismissal for the day must be reported by 10:45 AM. Please email/call the office as teachers cannot always check their email during class.
- October 15th is the cut off for all paperwork regarding health immunizations and exams. Students could be excluded from in-person/remote if not submitted by this day. Click here to find out what exams are necessary or contact our Mrs. Alexander (calexander@cusd201.org).
Arrival
- Friday arrival time for car line was 14 minutes! We knew we would get into a routine and we are hoping we continue this pace as students and families adjust to the new systems.
What helps arrival to run smooth:
- Students knowing they have to open and close doors
- Having self-certification ticket and backpack ready
- Exiting the vehicle immediately
Arriving between 8:05 ---8:10 AM is going to help a lot so that the line runs smoothly and there is not a back up onto Naperville Road. Please make sure not to block our neighbor's driveways on Linden Street.
All students arriving after 8:20 must come to Door 2.
Dismissal
- Friday dismissal time for car line was 19 minutes.
- There is no need to arrive too early. We do not want to call names until dismissal at 11:30 so coming at 11:40 AM is going to alleviate the line.
Quarter 1 is Ending
It feels as though we just began, but October 16th marks the end of the Quarter. Over the next couple weeks, I will be sharing a lot of information with families about the evolution into standards based grading (SBG). There are two main points that need to be shared as we move into our Fall Conferences.
- Teachers and students have had to relearn school over the past two months. In many ways, we have started over. Our primary structures have needed to shift and learner habits have become the focus of setting our students up for success.
- Standards Based Grading (SBG) is not meant to have strict cut offs for grades and reporting. The end of a quarter, like any standardized assessment, takes a snapshot of that moment in time. Our goal of these "reports" and conferences is to have conversations about:
- What is going well.
- What are 1-2 action steps to strengthen specific areas.
- How each stakeholder (student, parent, and teacher) can help with those action steps.
