High Lakes News
March 2017
This Months Highlights!
High Lakes Families,
Time sure does fly. It is already the second week of March. The school has been buzzing with activity. As you walk through the building, learning is so evident in many ways. A lot is happening in our school and I encourage you all to look at the calendar items so you and your children don’t miss anything.
…Smarter Balanced Testing
In April we will begin the Smarter Balanced Testing for grades 3,4, and 5. We will be testing the English Language Arts portion in April and the Mathematics in May. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have questions about this testing.
…bullying
We often hear the word “bully” and it is also often used incorrectly. Our school psychologist found this wonderful blog/power point that easily describes the difference between being mean, rude or a bully.Thank you to Jeannie Maddox who writes a blog called “Exploring School Counseling” which is based on materials written by Signe Whitson.
From all of the staff at High Lakes, please have a safe and enjoyable Spring Break!

Naglieri
This year, all elementary schools in Bend-La Pine will be using the Naglieri Non-Verbal Ability Test (NNAT3) to screen students for possible identification for intellectual giftedness. The NNAT3 is a measure of nonverbal reasoning and problem solving, independent of educational curricula and cultural and/or language background. All second graders will take this 30-minute test, as well as students in grades 3-5 who are new to the district and have not taken a similar test.
If you are a parent of a student in grades K-1 who is demonstrating signs of intellectual giftedness, please consult with your child’s teacher. We will also administer this test to younger students who are strong candidates for identification as Talented and Gifted (TAG).
