1st Grade- Art
1st Grade- Music
Congrats to our awesome 1st Graders and the JES Elementary Choir. The winter concert and production of Flakes the Musical was a huge success!!!
2nd Grade- Art & Music
Students in many grade levels had the opportunity to write letters, make cards, and create artworks for soldiers in the US Military to brighten their holidays! Enjoy some highlights from 2nd graders in art. - Jennifer Flynn, Art Teacher
After winter break we will begin working on our upcoming 2nd Grade Musical! Be looking for information to come home as soon as we return. Mark your calendars for Tuesday, March 26th.
-Alyssa Vanderpool, Music Teacher
3rd Grade- Music
3rd Grade is currently learning how to read the pitches on the treble clef staff. Once proficient we will apply this knowledge into recorder playing. In January, we will also be collaborating with the classroom teachers on their upcoming PBL. We will be focusing on the marketing side of their project by creating commercials and jingles.
5th Grade- Spanish
In 5th grade Spanish, we are breaking out...er, actually, breaking in...to a box to see what's inside! Students read a story with hidden clues, in Spanish of course, and then using critical thinking and collaboration skills, they solve the combinations on the locks. We have completed 2 of 5 locks and I have been super impressed by how quick students are coming up with the combinations! Great job, 5th grade!
Johnson purchased a new curriculum for the 2018-2019 school year, focused on conflict management in grades K through 5. This program - Kelso's choice - involves 9 strategies that students can use when they have conflicts with their friends.
During the months of November and December, all Johnson students PRACTICED these strategies....further developing communication and collaboration skills that will help them throughout their lifespan.
Please remind students to turn in books on time. Of course, books can be renewed. If a book is lost, the student will have to pay the replacement costs. If your child has an overdue item, you will receive an automated message from our library management system, Destiny.
Students can use their Epic! app while at school to access a complete digital library for free.
OverDrive QuickStart is our newest digital platform. Students have access to 200 books that can be read by multiple users at home and school. There are even several read aloud options for our beginning readers. Students can access these books by signing into their ClassLink app and then clicking the OverDrive icon. Or they can sign in using the following information: Website: http://johnsones.lib.overdrive.com Login code: Johnson.
We also have almost 300 eBooks available through the Destiny Discover app. Students just need to sign in through google with their Fort Thomas email and FT password.
