Message from the Superintendent
E-Learning Day; Thursday, February 17.
Hello Proviso Parents and Students,
Safety is ABOVE all else, here in Proviso Township High School District 209!
Our teachers have indicated they will strike, beginning this Friday, if the Proviso Teachers’ Union and the District do not reach an agreement on a new contract. In light of this, many of the teachers in D209 have recruited our scholars to support their position and encouraged them to stage a walkout during school hours.
I am encouraged to see our scholars using their voices to advocate in support of a cause they believe in. However, we must always remember that safety is above all else! The demonstrations that were staged in and around our schools have not only caused disruption to teaching and learning in our classrooms, they also put many of our scholars in compromising situations and have the ability to cause irreparable harm to their futures.
In order to prevent any further classroom disruptions ahead of the planned strike, we are initiating an E-Learning day for all students on Thursday, February 17. Teachers will conduct classes from their classrooms and will be accessible to students from 8:00 am-3:15 pm.
Students will use their District issued laptops to attend classes via TEAMS, according to their normal schedule. All students and teachers are required to have their cameras ON for the duration of each class. Those who do not will be marked absent.
As a friendly reminder, the District has a planned Institute Day on Friday, February 18 and students were already scheduled to have the day off. They also have the day off on Monday, February 21 for Presidents Day.
We value all our scholars and place their safety above all else, every day. Yes, today’s event was a lesson within itself – with scholars exercising their First Amendment right but remember, doing this must always be well planned and conducted in a safe setting. Again, SAFETY is my top priority!
I want all of you to know that the Board of Education and I are committed to ensuring that all stakeholders in Proviso Township win when a new contract agreement has been reached. Please continue to encourage the Board, the District, and the PTU to keep working diligently to secure a contract agreement that is in the best interest of all District 209 stakeholders. I appreciate your patience and, I assure you, we will get past this moment, together.
Sincerely,
Superintendent Henderson
Sinceramente,
Superintendente Henderson
