Legalizing Marijuana
Liliana Jaimes
My Thesis Statement for Marijuana
Marijuana is the most commonly used drug in all of the United States. I think Marijuana should be used for medical reasons and for people that just to do it.
Why is Marijuana illegal in the United States?
Marijuana is illegal, many people assume that Marijuana was made illegal through some kind of process involving scientific, medical, and government hearings that it was to protect the citizens from what was determined to be a dangerous drug. Some people in the world are mad or upset that Marijuana is illegal, Marijuana is one of the most popular drug in the United States even though it is illegal people still smoke it or do whatever they do with it. Even though people don't think Marijuana is bad for u it can kill you, but if they change the law for some states and legalize Marijuana i don't people will have to worry about getting caught or anything like that.
What is the background information of Marijuana?
Governments were not concerned about the Drugs or their harmful effects until the late nineteenth century. The earliest Americans used a variety of natural substances, and their derivatives, to cure ailments, to relieve pain and to provide pleasure. The use of opium, morphine, cocaine and Marijuana was legal and widespread during the late 1800's. Doctors prescribed opium, Marijuana, cocaine and heroin for the treatment of tetanus, dysentery, fever and migraine headaches.
What did state lawyers argue?
The states lawyers brief argued that "Colorado's actions have directly caused Nebraska's and Oklahoma's harms," and that the Centennial State should be held responsible for the damage its Marijuana inflicts on its neighbors in the same way that bartenders would be "held responsible for the drunk who kills a family with his car" after knowingly selling the drunk "ten beers in two hours."
What did the Congress law pass?
Congress passes a law against the importation of opium that is used for preparing smoking opium.
When did Marijuana have its first law?
In 1619 Jamestown Colony, Virginia, passes the first law requiring all farmers to grow cannabis sativa, or hemp plant, for its unusually strong fiber that is used to make rope, sails and clothing.
Marijuana Commentary
"It's a myth that cops, supposedly reflecting that will of an increasing enlightened society, are no longer enforcing pot laws, or doing so only half-heartedly. Legalization will free police officers to concentrate on crimes that inflict the deepest fear, pain and loss." Another commentary that i found was "Even with the U.S. economy struggling, we should not buy into the argument that vices should be legalized, taxed and regulated no matter how much revenue we think it may generate. Significant cost burdens come with increased marijuana use."
How much money Marijuana sales?
$6.7 billion in legal sales and 6.7 billion all together.
Some facts why Marijuana should be legal.
Research is said that Marijuana is a drug that can cure some diseases, like cancer, glaucoma, and aids. Some people claim hat this drug is a stress reliever and a useful medicine for pain. Some doctors give this drug to people who have problems sleeping and eating. Even though people think it is a harmful drug it really isn't because most of the United States has legalized it like Alaska, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington. There are many more states that only legalized it because of medical reasons and those states are Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington. So if they are gonna legalize Marijuana for medical reasons they should do it to all the United States not just some of them.
