Principal's Message
Happy March Sunset Lake Families!
Thank you for a great turn out at our Student-Led Conferences in February. Our students were proud leaders of their own learning and were happy to share their academic and personal progress with their families.
March is Reading Month across our nation. We hope you find ways to enjoy reading as a family and you encourage your child to spend some extra time reading during this month of reading celebrations.
In celebration of March is Reading Month we have a special event planned that we hope brings all of our families out to celebrate the joy of student literacy and leadership....
Family Literacy Leadership Night!!
Please plan on attending our fourth annual Sunset Lake Family Night. This year the event is called Literacy Leadership Night and it will take place on March 16th from 6:00-7:30 pm. This year's format will be an Open House style; however, some classrooms will have designated student read-aloud times. We have many organizations and celebrations that will be in place for the evening.
Highlights Include: Scholastic Book Fair, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Village Library, The Big Read Machine, Student Art Show, Student Leaders sharing 7 Habits and literacy lessons, Ideas for Reading at Home, Generous Hands, School Police Liasion, Connections Counseling, Book Raffle, Pizza, Snack Bags and more!!
A RSVP invitation was sent home this week and we are asking that you send in the RSVP with your child to help us plan accordingly.
We are happy to announce that our Sunset Lake News Team continues to grow with student reporters. This student action team meets with me each month to determine what articles they will report on for our monthly SMORE. I hope you enjoy this month's student articles included in our March edition of Sunset Express.

Dr Seuss Birthday
By: Calvin Triemstra
Dr. Seuss was born on March 2nd, 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts. He died September 24, 1991. We still celebrate his birthday today because he is a great author and still today we love his books.

March is Reading Month
By Emma Welch- 3rd Grade
March reading month is when students try to read a little more than they usually do like maybe a student will try a new series that they have never tried before and really like it.
March Weather
The weather in March is going to be colder than average in our area. For this area of Michigan our average March temperatures are highs in the 40s and low in the 20s. In early March we can expect it to be cold with chances of snow. Mid March we will see mild temperatures along with rain, and chances of sunshine. Going into the end of March it will get cold again.

Tech Tips for Families from Common Sense Media
We believe that the use of technology can help our students and staff learn. However, we also know that balancing our time with technology and non-technology options is important.
Common Sense Media is a great resource for families to use as a way to know what is developmentally appropriate for our children. Click on the link below to read an article posted from the Common Sense Media blog site.
