First grade Explore More Day needs you

Attention 1st grade parents! We are currently seeking 2-3 people to serve on the Explore More Day planning committee. Our 1st graders follow a separate schedule than 3rd, 4th and 5th grade for Explore More Day. We have many class ideas and materials from previous years so this role will not be too challenging or time consuming. If you have a 1st grade student and are willing to help out, please contact Amy Fiorato or Kristin Olson at emd@madisonschoolpta.org.

Earn a free pass to Raging Waves

Are you tracking your fitness? Earn a FREE weekday pass to Raging Waves Waterpark in Yorkville this summer in just three easy steps. Madison students grade K-5 can keep track of exercise on the fitness logs that were sent home on February 10. Initial each circle/box on the fitness log for every 30 minutes you exercise. After you have finished the path, turn in your completed log to your teacher by Friday, April 14. You will get your FREE Raging Waves weekday pass from your teacher before the end of May. It’s simple and fun! Extra fitness logs are available in the front office or on the Madison website under the PTA Google drive forms/flyers. Contact Sybil Scaccia at sscaccia@comcast.net with any questions.

Conservation Committee works toward Ecology Flag

The Conservation Committee is working to earn an Ecology Flag through the Glen Ellyn based organization SCARCE (School and Community Assistance for Recycling and Composting Education).

The committee has begun composting and food sharing in the lunchroom. Food sharing is an effort to cut down on wasted food and an initiative that allows students to put uneaten food that hasn't been partially eaten or opened on a table for other students to take.

The Conservation Committee students are now part of the green patrol at lunch, which helps kids know in which container to deposit their waste. Parents can help these efforts by encouraging the students to compost their fruit and vegetable waste at lunch and to talk to students about the food sharing table at school.

The committee also will work toward celebrating Earth Day at Madison and promoting a Walk/Bike to School day in May. All of our efforts will support the qualifications needed to earn the Ecology Flag. Volunteers to help with the Earth Day and Bike to School events are welcome. If interested, please contact Lisa Thomas at gogreen@madisonschoolpta.org.

Thank you party volunteers

Thank you to all the party planners and volunteers that helped make our Valentine parties a success. A special thank you to the grade level food party coordinators that helped this year following our food policy guidelines: Jen Doty, Amy Fiorato, Chrissy Ligler, Vandana Mody, Maria Mothershed, Colleen Turner, and Kelly Weideman. Your dedication and hard work with getting food approved, purchased, and delivered to each class was greatly appreciated.

Submit your inspiration nominations

Are you the parent of a child who has been inspired by a District 200 teacher or staff member? With your child, take a minute to tell us about it.

Over a year ago, the PTA Council and the Superintendent's Office developed the Inspiration Nomination program to honor our District 200 staff members and acknowledge all that they do for our students. Forms are available in the Madison office, or you can can download the form here and submit it to Erica Loiacono at erica.loiacono@cusd200.org. You can either email a scanned copy (or photo) to erica.loiacono@cusd200.org, or you can turn it into the PTA President mailbox.

Any Inspiration Nomination received will be shared with the staff member nominated along with recognition by the Superintendent and PTA Council. Then, two times per year, the Council and Superintendent will surprise select staff members who have really gone above and beyond by visiting their classroom and recognizing their work personally.

Want to play dodgeball?

Hey 5th graders!

Can you duck, dip, dive, and dodge? On Saturday, March 11, from 1-3 p.m. Franklin Middle School invites 5th graders from all CUSD200 elementary schools to participate in its Fifth Annual Dodgeball Tournament.

The theme of the 2017 event is “Service and Sacrifice.” With that theme in mind, the 2017 tournament will benefit the following charities and organizations: The DuPage Hundred Club; Team Red, White and Blue; The Pat Tillman Foundation; and Franklin Middle School. Each organization will benefit equally from the proceeds.

There will be separate boys and girls tournaments that will start with a round robin tournament. Each team will play four games and then will be seeded in a double elimination tournament. The winner of the tournament will be crowned champion!

Form a team of six boys or six girls and then pick up a packet in the office.

Good luck!
