Happy Fall Everyone!

Book Checkout - The How
When the students are ready to check out, they come up to the circulation desk, scan their card, then scan their books. The Destiny system shows students' names and photo after they have scanned their cards.
At Lydia Middleton the re-shelving of books is a huge task... 2 books x 300+ kids = a whole lot of books coming and going every week.
Another benefit is that the teachers will be able to really see what the students are checking out and help them make good choices. :o)
Dot Day!
Lydia Middleton students love celebrating DOT DAY each year! The official Dot Day is on September 15(ish)...we celebrated 3 weeks long this year! Students created 3D (Augmented Reality) dots, talking dots, and the culminating activity was a Gumdrop Challenge! Their materials: toothpicks and candy Gumdrops.
K-2 challenge was to build the tallest free standing structure.
Third - fifth challenge was to build a structure, with a set number of toothpicks and gumdrops, that would support the weight of a book.
Oh yeah, stickiness was involved and the kids wanted to eat them.
Creating, Engineering, Problem-solving, and Teamwork!

LEARNING COMMONS
There will be changing activities placed around the library with the intention of igniting curiosity, creativity and innovation. Using both high and low-tech materials, and, sometimes no tech at all.
But don't worry! Lydia Middleton Library is still the place to go for great books! We will have a whole shipment of new books for you to check out, soon.
As you get better acquainted with the Destiny catalog system, it will knock your socks off! You will have access to the library with the click of a button. How's that for 24-hour library access?
