Exam season approaches
If you are looking for some tips & hints about how to revise, check out the links on the library homepage (remember this can be found from the Garin Intranet page).
There are many great resources available.
Probably the best advise is to have a plan for your revision - sit down with a calendar, look at when each exam is, and plan backwards from there to make sure you don't end up with a last minute panic.
And when you need a break, or want to turn your brain off so you can sleep, keep a good book handy!
Some of our new books: (scroll down to see all)
The Big Dry
Heat. Drought. Dust storms. People missing everyday. The city turning into a ghost town. But the biggest danger for George and his younger brother Beeper is not the weather. It's Emily, a girl who moves like a ballet dancer, slides through locked doors, and can bring two lost boys only closer to disaster.
Hero on a Bicycle
In extraordinary circumstances, people are capable of extraordinary things ...it is 1944 and Florence is occupied by Nazi German forces. The Italian resistance movement has not given up hope, though - and neither have Paolo and his sister, Constanza. Both are desperate to fight the occupation, but what can two siblings do against a whole army with only a bicycle to help them?
Cup Magic
Mike Lucas wants to know why he's being sent to live with his grandparents. But then Mike learns the reason for the secrecy: his parents are working with the Team New Zealand boat builders for the 1995 America's Cup challenge. And then he finds out that the whole family is going to San Diego! Everyone is wearing their lucky red socks and excitement is feverish ... can Black Magic bring home the Cup?
Song of the Slums
17-year-old Astor thinks she is about to wed the handsome plutocrat Lorrain Swale. But to her horror her mother and step-father abandon her, and she finds herself a lowly governess in the Swale household. Treated with contempt by the whole family, Astor is determined to escape. Help arrives unexpectedly in the form of the charismatic and mysterious Verrol. Together they plunge into the slums of Brummingham and find themselves in a street band, making wild music - a new kind of music that takes the world by storm. But the Swale brothers haven't finished with them yet ...
Shahana
Shahana lives alone with her young brother in the shadow of the Line of Control, the border patrolled by Pakistani and Indian soldiers that divides Kashmir in two. Life is hard, but Shahana ekes out a living with her beautiful embroidery. Then she finds a boy lying unconscious near the border. Zahid is from across the Line of Control, and Shahana takes a terrible risk by sheltering him. But how can she give Zahid up to the authorities when she knows he'll be imprisoned - or worse?
Killing Rachel
Rose's mother and Joshua's father have disappeared. Police inquiries have gone nowhere and the case, it seems, is closed: Rose and Joshua have been told that the police believe their parents are dead. But Rose and Joshua still hold out hope that they are alive. Joshua is determined to follow up his own inquiries, which includes working out the meaning of the cryptic notebooks - the murder notebooks - they have discovered. Then Rose is distracted by odd, desperate messages she receives from Rachel, a former best friend from her school, followed by the terrible news that Rachel is dead. But perhaps Rachel's death will provide one more piece of the puzzle about what has happened to Rose and Joshua's parents ...
