August 13, 2020 Regular Board Workshop Meeting

The Board of Education provides a "Board Meeting Summary" after each Board meeting. The summary includes a brief description of the main topics and action items. These summaries are not meant to replace minutes. The minutes for each meeting are approved and posted after the next regularly scheduled meeting. We hope these summaries provide some basic information and context around the reports, presentations and action items. NOTE: In the interest of safety for Board and staff members, as well as the school community, the meeting format was adjusted. The Superintendent and Board President were present at the meeting location in accordance with the OMA; all other members of the Board and staff attended remotely.

2020-2021 District 41 Reopening Schools Plan Update | watch

Superintendent Dr. Melissa Kaczkowski shared that community partners are joining the zoom meeting as part of a new Pandemic Response Advisory Team (PRAT). This committee will serve as a superintendent’s committee with meetings once a month during the Board of Education workshop meetings.


Dr. Kaczkowski called on Assistant Superintendent for Finance, Facilities and Operations Eric DePorter to give an update on transportation. He shared information about how the District’s relationship with the bus company will continue during remote learning in order to be prepared to provide transportation services when in-person learning resumes. Assistant Superintendent for Teaching, Learning and Accountability Dr. Katie McCluskey gave an update about remote learning and the instructional model related to the A/B schedule and the time allocations for the various subject areas.

Board members asked questions and engaged in conversation about the information presented.


Dr. Kaczkwoski provided some clarifications about how the entire district will function during the full remote model. She also shared that statewide metrics for returning to school have not been released. In addition, she asked each representative from community organizations present on the zoom to introduce themselves. Dr. Kaczkowski talked about how the new community PRAT team will work together moving forward. Board members thanked the representatives for joining the meeting and for their commitment to this work.
