Mrs Bawa Graduation Speech at Year 6 Assembly
Good morning Mr Pitt, Mrs Karam, my colleagues and my beloved students of 2020.
Today, a cloud of sadness prevails over me as I have come to address you for the last time as your teacher in this fashion. I’m truly honoured for this opportunity that I am getting to bid you all a formal goodbye and celebrate your success at Fairvale for the past 7 years.
Despite the unprecedented events and challenges of 2020, the memories I have with my colleagues and school community are way too precious to ever forget.
It was an honour to be your teacher and now I understood fully why my colleagues congratulated me on the news of being given an enrichment class.
You are truly an incredible bunch, you are strong and resilient and I’m so impressed with the way you handled the changes and challenges this year with remote learning and Covid restrictions.
You are my children at school and had become an integral part of my life. Every one of you is unique and you should never believe anything else.
I would like to thank each of you present here today for adding value to my life and for giving me a bag full of memories.
I’d like to express my sincere gratitude to all of you, my students and send my best wishes for your future endeavours! I believe each of you is a gem and will take the learnings gathered at Fairvale to a higher level of prosperity. I look forward to hearing about your academic and sporting excellence, like successful soccer players Peter and Nathan Chau, doctors from Jeffrey and Nathan Nguyen, authors like Emily and Christina, therapists like Jessica, Lego master Leon, wild life warrior Jovan, basketballer Stefan, artists like Isabella and Joanne, scientist Tribeca, lawyer Lorita, dancer Elena and musician Amanda.
I know it takes a village to raise a child, thus I like to thank your parents and carers for their tremendous support this year, for donating classroom resources, numerous fundraising and so forth.
Big congratulations 6B and all the best for your future studies and continue to make us proud. Don’t forget to drop in and visit us teachers at Fairvale one day. Cheers to 6B of 2020!
Mrs Bawa
A farewell letter from Christina.
Christina's beautiful letter...
Dear Mrs Bawa,
This year has been a memorable last year at Fairvale for me, even with COVID-19, because I got to spend this year with an intelligent, considerate and supportive class and teacher. Mrs Bawa, you and 5/6B have inspired and taught me to be a better person, inside and out, and I could never thank you enough.
From the day I stepped into Fairvale until now, I have changed a lot. I started off being a timid girl and over the years I changed to become a confident leader. At first, going to school was like I was being forced to learn, but over time, I grew to love this school, looking forward to waking up every morning to come to school, to learn and see my friends and teachers. In my 7 years at Fairvale Public School, I learnt many qualities such as kindness, confidence, forgiveness, compassion, leadership, sportsmanship and resilience. My experience at Fairvale Public School has made me a better person and I’m proud to be a student here at Fairvale. However, my time at Fairvale has come to an end, but I’m not leaving this school being upset, I’m leaving this school being proud and confident because this school has prepared me for anything coming my way. I wish you, the teachers and students of Fairvale all the best and I’ll always remember what an enjoyable 7 years here at Fairvale I had.
I’ll also remember what you and many other teachers have complimented me on, whether it was my work or my behaviour because these little compliments keep me fighting on to be my best self I can be. Thank you, Mrs Bawa, for being the teacher who teaches me for my final year here at Fairvale. I’ve learnt many things from you, in work and personality and I hope that the students you teach in the future will learn and become successors who will make you and Fairvale proud.
From, Christina Ngoy. 2020 Dux of the Year
A few comments from students...
2020 was a very memorable year, with many different events that had happened. Though many things were happening, one of the things of 2020 that I will remember from this year is having amazing friends that I met this year, after changing 4/5N into 5/6B.
I really liked the new friends that I made because they were really caring and nice to me. They would always support me when I was upset, and I feel grateful for them being in my life for the past year. Given everything that had happened during the year, having them accompany me has been one of the best things that happened to me this year.

The most memorable moment;
The most memorable moment was when I came into 5/6B. It was exciting because I got to be in a class with all of my friends and I got to meet new peers. I will remember this moment because I made so many new friends along with meeting my favourite teacher from year 3,Mrs Bawa. Being in 5/6B made me happy and I had a lot of fun participating in activities with my classmates and peers. This moment is one which I will never forget.

This year I had lots of fun having the end of term 3 party and I’ll have fun in this term’s party coming up on Thursday as well. Everyone brought lots of food and everyone had a great time. The movie was very entertaining and I’m glad that Wonder was chosen.
The food was very delicious and I enjoyed the movie and the snacks. I think the party made everyone have a good time talking to each other. I also can’t wait for this term's party. I’m sure that the next party coming up will be really fun and exciting.

Yes, a lot may have been derailed on the back of Covid-19. But goals don’t need to be completely de-railed by this crisis. They may get revised, they may get postponed, or they may be absolutely fine to exist during this pandemic. Like most people, I believed 2020 would, in some way, be my year or at least be the start of something great that I would ride into the new decade. The later half of 2019 was arguably one of the best times of my life. I was experiencing new things, exploring new areas, and enjoying as much as I could before the year 2020 would come. I had been planning and waiting for this day to come for over three years, as I knew this would be my best and probably my only opportunity to see the world freely before I started my last year in primary. During this COVID year, many opportunities had to either be postponed or cancelled. The most memorable thing I've done this year was when we had our year 6 farewell, this event was one of the most memorable events as I could cherish the time I spent with my beloved friends.

Memorable moments in 2020
In 2020, Donald Trump and Joe Biden had an election for the new president of America. Trump lost and therefore led Biden won.
In 2020, Australia was introduced to Covid-19 and at first it wasn't a huge problem but later in the year, many people were affected by it and it led to many school interruptions. For a long period of time, we had to learn at home and we missed out on many excursions. In term 1, I had made a new friend from the year 6’s and she was Tribeca! I had seen her in the school before but I had never thought much of her but since in this class, we became amazing friends.
Overall, my year wasn't the best, but I still had fun and enjoyed most of my time in 5/6B with Mrs. Bawa! Even if we didn't experience many fun activities out of school, I still made many fond memories and I hope that next year will be better. I also hope that Covid 19 will be eased forever and that I can make better memories in my final year at Fairvale in 2021. By : Ann
